"I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now"

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Hope this helps you

If your not part of the solution,

you're part of the problem.

    Someone else mentioned about using Process Blocker on this thread or another I saw.  So I finally broke down and tried it.  It works great!  Here's how to install and use it.

    Steps to do:

    1. Download Process Blocker from: https://www.processblocker.com
    2. Install it (use default settings, if any)
    3. Run “Configure Process Blocker” (Found in Start menu under Process Blocker, or just  use Windows Search to find it)
    4. Click Add button in app
    5. Enter for "Name of application to block": C:\Windows\System32\CompatTelRunner.exe
    6. Make sure to have checked "Block other applications with identical CRC"
    7. Click OK
    8. Click OK
    9. Reboot

    Now when Compattelrunner tries to run, Process Blocker will prevent it and a Windows' Notification (in lower right corner of desktop) will appear notifying you it was blocked.  This should bring a warm smile to your face! 😊

    I've been using it for a month now on a few computers and I haven't seen any side-effects.

    I still occasionally see HDD being busy, but these were because of Defender scans, Windows Update, or SuperFetch.  Nothing like before.

    so much options, my solution simple:

    try my prev. post

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8\_1-performance/disabling-windows-compatability-telemetry/f1437548-84ae-4421-9a07-45feb17cab86

    new version O&O must do it

    https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

    diabled it without remove file as described there;

    maybe after updates need reenable;

    (I had diable updates autoinstall and my PC work fine without recreating that stupid process;)

    Well, as I previously said, I deleted CompatTelRunner.exe, but it's obviously only a proxy, as now the same scans continue at about the same frequency but this time it's TIWorker.exe, scvhost.exe and HxTsr.exe POSes who monopolize the HDD.

    BTW, disabling the tasks only worked short term for a short while.
