"I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now"

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Hope this helps you

If your not part of the solution,

you're part of the problem.

I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now. In my opinion it is the best Windows OS out there right now the way it functions etc..

It is the best OS for Microsoft and the sales market, not for the users or their computers

How do you get a foothold in the market with anything that has so many security issues for the user.

    1st:   Give everyone a new O.S. FREE.

2nd: Baffle people with BS about the advantages so they don't realize the many huge disadvantages.

3rd:  Once the users have been 'trained' like little puppies, go strong with the objectives of making Billions more

with monthly charges for stuff such as OneDrive, Office 365 etc etc....

    • if you cannot control when, if and how you get your updates, you have been trained.
    • if you are forced to use the cloud despite all the privacy/security issue and common sense, you have been trained.
    • if you think this new trend is in YOUR best interest, you have been trained.

Not to be the bearer of gloom but the reality is the Cloud opens a HUGE door to your loss of control in using YOUR

computer, is a hackers dream and a personal privacy/security nightmare.

Windows 10 is the doorman at the door dangling the FREE Carrot.

If you don't understand the Cloud and where Windows 10 is taking us,  Educate yourself!

Hello, I see the executable compattelrunner.exe also on my Windows 10 Installation.

My questions: What triggers the execution of compattelrunner.exe?

Is it a specific service? Which one?

Is it a scheduled task? Which one?

    Registry Run Key?

    Hi,

I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro, why is it on my PC ?

    Thanks

Its the tool to check for apps that are compatible with windows 10.  So certainly would run on Windows 7, and 8.1.  And it continues to run even after you go to Windows 10.

    Thanks T49sp
