"I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now"

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Hope this helps you

If your not part of the solution,

you're part of the problem.

You'd almost think Microsoft was deliberately creating an air of mistrust with their newest software.

Personally I don't believe that is the case. Rather I believe the people at the top are pushing all this mainly because with the boom of the CLOUD (ugh) they have opted

    1. who cares what the people think
    2. we are entitled to invade peoples computers
    3. we will cater to whoever has the most money
    4. so what if we ruin the internet advantages to the people using it.
    5. we OWN the internet
    6. and lastly, we will open doors to scams, identity theft, data theft. After all people are used to our insecure O.S.'s that require hundreds of fixes after each release.

Well with the Anniversary update, it's back with a vengeance.  This time it's not using Task Scheduler to start and for Windows 10 uninstalling is not an option.  I found it being referenced in the Registry at:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TelemetryController

Any ideas on how to stop this Malware?  It looks like windows now built it into the system.

    ***UPDATE***

Renaming the entry from TelemetryController to TelemetryControllerX "seems" to stop it from running again if you have the Anniversary Update.

See my other replies for other versions about removing it from Task Scheduler.

    ZigZag3143,")

If that is so, can you explain to me why we need a TELEMETRY program on our systems for compatIbility?

My understanding of TELEMETRY is to send data not receive...  Besides WE make our own decisions on what we should get and what is NOT good for us.  Microsoft is the one that needs to use TELEMETRY when necessary.

OR am I just confused on that?
