"I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now"

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Hope this helps you

If your not part of the solution,

you're part of the problem.

For all versions of Windows start by removing it from Task Schedular:

    1. Start Task Scheduler
    2. Go to: Task Scheduler Library / Microsoft / Windows / Application Experience
    3. Disable all three tasks in that folder
    4. Go to: ask Scheduler Library / Microsoft / Windows / Customer Experience Improvement Program
    5. Disable all three tasks in that folder

Then for Windows 10 you'll also need to cripple the app from the registry:

    1. Start Registry Editor (regedit.exe) as Administrator
    2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TelemetryController
    3. Rename the entry from TelemetryController to TelemetryControllerX
    4. Reboot

Unfortunately, you'll need to do the latter step again in the future.  I found something had put it back in teh registry just now.

    Not sure about this!

I'm running Windows 10 and this is taking up most of my disk resource at times

PS.  I searched on "Customer Experience Improvement Program" and that was found.

In my case I had already checked the radio button to remove my participation.  So that is not the solution for me.

    Nor would it.

Microsoft has gotten very heavy handed in that they will force us to do what they want on OUR computers,

whether we like it or not.  We have all become their BETA testers with forced updates. We are at their mercy

as to how OUR computers are RUN, get USED and what is installed. What is worse, this I believe is just the initial

period of what we can expect in the future from their market CONTROL. I expect their will be a day when OUR

computers will not even run unless we have and are continuously connected to Microsoft.

Remember when the worst thing about the internet was a VIRUS possibility. Now the O.S. / CLOUD is just a Virus variant that gobbles up whatever information you willingly or unwillingly entrust to it, whether it be to the internet or not, on a more Global standing.

Copy Write Protection is too fluid and gives the holder way too much power with just issuing disclaimers in their T.O.S.

One can argue, "you don't have to use it" but with the big 3 forcing the internet and software use to be directly locked into their T.O.U. they are effectively taking CHOICE from us.

Imagine if your new car came with a Manufactures T.O.P. (Terms of Purchase) that included with ever new car purchase.

     1) You may not drive above 70mph  or we seize back the vehicle.

     2) We reserve the right to monitor, record and share all driving location(s) and habits by driving the car or we seize back the vehicle.

     3) You must NOT allow anyone other than the registered owner to drive the vehicle or we seize back the vehicle.

     4) Ownership is NOT transferable or we seize back the vehicle.

    and lets not forget,

     5) We reserve the right to inspect at our whim and leisure that the vehicle has not been altered in any way or we seize back the vehicle.
