"I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now"

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Hope this helps you

If your not part of the solution,

you're part of the problem.

I believe MS is just trying to gather info to make improvements.  Unfortunately, it killings some systems like mine which have large amount of legitimate software installed and is using older HDD.

If you believe that, you have been trained.

    • if you cannot control when, if and how you get your updates, you have been trained.
    • if you are forced to use the cloud despite all the privacy/security issue and common sense, you have been trained.
    • if you think this new trend is in YOUR best interest, you have been trained.

I upgraded my laptop from Win7 pro to Win10, and upgraded by desktop Win7 (not professional version), to Win10.  I did this during the last week of July 2016.  After the October 4th update the desktop won't let me see and copy files on to the laptop (cable network home/office connection).  It says I need to Log in with a password to access the laptop (while from the desktop only), but I have never done that before and all settings are set to "SHARE" on both computers. The laptop lets me see and copy files on the desktop without a login or password.  It appears there's a bug in Win10 related to networks and other computers.  I noticed other users have had the same problem.

I am furious for the lost time this is causing me.  Things were working fine until the Oct. 4th update.

    Any suggestions?

    gary
