"I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now"

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Hope this helps you

If your not part of the solution,

you're part of the problem.

Greetings from the GreatCountry of TEXAS,

You are rather fortunate to have your "WIFE" still with you, cherish that, do not allow it to get away.  Lost mine in 2012 after 48.5 wonderful years.  Now have to deal with the largest pain in the a$$, ME!  When she departed I dropped the TV side of cable and kept the Internet.  Completely agree with you on the ADs, like they are not making enough off their products they feel they need to hound us into eternity.

Do not brag too much on here, but; have been rather fortunate to have some of the VERT BEST protection and mostly FREE, have some that are paid but 'life-time' updates are FREE.  Also agree with the Fix Or Repair Daily, never have owned nor driven one.  Keep up the good work...

Greetings from the Great Country of TEXAS,

You can go to GRC dot COM's web site and get the FREE "NEVER10" running it will STOP the GWX.  I have done this along with some of my own 'hacks'.  You may also use his "SHIELDS_UP" to test your security.  How visible am I to the internet?  This question will be answered and help you to make your system non-visible.

    Good Luck!

Greetings from the GreatCountry of TEXAS,

Quote: "If you are still running Windows 7, DO NOT use the provided upgrade process to get Windows 10."  Yes, this is true and have done much to prevent going any farther with GWX.  Have used **GRC'**s little program "Never10" and some of mine own 'hacks' to prevent moving on to GWX.  Thank goodness I used a little of my learnings from previous problems with Microsoft's issues with upgrades.  Hopefully this is just another of their 'hair-brain' ideas that will die with the 'fuss' about their robbing us of our privacy.  That is just another 'wish-full thinking' on my part, do not believe it will save us.

I do not have schooling in this software, just self-taught and do work for another when needed.  Mostly those that cannot afford the "Geeks" that are charging too much.

Without a doubt.  A much respected and trusted, despite they can't seem to make a secure O.S., company

has lowered themselves to the likes of Google.

I've never trusted Google for its data gathering of personal information, without express consent per instance.

Microsoft seems to be following in their footsteps in taking more information from us than the internet provides

    to us.

The shame of it is the Internet was such a useful and informational tool globally and now is just another source

    of abusive advertising.

Won't be long before the internet will be as bad as television where it has become 6 min of television for every

    8 minutes of commercials.

The worst part is, we all pay for Television and Internet services and yet advertisers and their customers treat

both like we should have no choice or rights.

Sadly, we deserve the abuse as we don't object and just accept it all.

On the bright side, I spend less time on the internet and rarely watch TV since ads started popping up on the lower

3rd of my screen during a show.

    and

a special thank you to FORD for ads during a show my wife enjoyed last year. She wanted a FORD model and I did not.

She was so irritated by the repeated FORD ads during her show we now own a new car. NOT a FORD.

Nor will she eat in a Subway restaurant. The 1st pop up ad she ever saw was by Subway and again it irritated her.

Overkill does come with a price in our house!!!!
