Anyone know what CompatTelRunner.exe is/does?

Wondering what CompatTelRunner.exe is doing on my computer?

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run. 

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

That is the compatibility update for win 7 RTM.  Care to tell us more about the problem?

    I know what you mean.  My windows Store App is broken and Microsoft can't fix it.  It doesn't run at all and it's corrupted.  It is too corrupted to uninstall and too corrupted to upgrade, but it resides on my hared drive unable to run.  It broke from a Microsoft PowerShell command to restore all Windows 10 apps.  This command was supposed to fix my nonfunctional Start Menu and Search functions.  It did neither and it was determined that the command breaks the windows Store and other apps in Windows 10 build 10586.  So the command broke my Windows Store App.  I traced the Start Menu and Search functions to a permissions issue which I corrected without any help from Microsoft, but the Windows Store is still broken.

    Microsoft Store App is broken?  Is that a bad thing?

    Sounds like a good thing to me. :)

    I find Windows 10 to be near useless at this point. The interface looks horrible and flat - what happened to the 3D look?

    I have two identical Dell computers, and both were running Windows 7 when I allowed one to upgrade to Windows 10.

    The first issue - my display is supposed to be 1600x900, only Windows 10 won't do that because the driver doesn't support it. It worked fine under Windows 7. (Yes, I searched for the latest drivers. No go.)

    Now I'm stuck at 1024x768 or 1600x1200 which means my screen has to scroll up and down.

    I also bought a laptop with Windows 8.1 and free upgrade to Windows 10. I did that, but now I can't share anything to either one from my Windows 7 box or an older XP box I keep around for an occasionally used graphic program that I can't upgrade without spending a couple hundred bucks. If I used it on a regular basis, I would do it, but I don't. Yah, I know, nickels and dimes...

    Another issue - they seem to have 'dumbed down' the interface. 

    They are also now calling 'programs' 'apps.' I actually had a user tell me they weren't running any programs, just some 'apps.' Geeze...

    Speaking of 'apps,' I keep deleting ones I don't want running and sucking up processing power and dang if it doesn't replace it with another running 'app.'

    I really need to get a "Windows 10 for dummies" book...

    Oh, yeah, original issue - the CompatTelRunner - I'm not participating in the user experience program and it only started taking over my computer this morning. WTH?
