I had recently disabled windows defender on windows 10 and when I did I know want to enable it again but when I open action center and press Turn On Now it does nothing. I have pressed it multiple times and with no result. Fix: press Windows Key + R type regedit locate the following path * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS DEFENDER* Right Click this file and select permissions press Advanced where it says owner press change change the owner to your username Now press apply then ok select Full Control from the permissions menu (click the Widnows Defender folder ) Find the value DisableAntiSpyware and DisableAntiVirus and set these values to 0 (explaination: double click each and where the 1 is put 0 and press ok) Open services.msc find Windows Defender there should be 2 services: Windows Defender Service and Windows Defnder Netwrok right click each and press start after you have started both restart your computer Run Windows Defend er I Hope this Helps! I disabled it through windows defender. it tells me windows defender is turned off No I have not yes build 9879 I had my friend try the same thing on build 9860 and the issue is still there. It is not because of any virus because my system and his sytem are both clean. There is no way to open windows defender and when I go to the action center it says windows defender is turned off . There is a button that says turn on bow when you press it, it does nothing. Sorry for any errors this was type on a mobile phone

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 10 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Note: The steps are also applicable to Windows 10 Technical Preview. Note: Once you are done with clean boot, please follow the section ‘ How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot’ under ‘more information’ in the article to put your computer back to normal startup.
