New MSN homepage not loading slideshows

I am running windows 8 and was converted to the new MSN homepage. The page itself loads just fine. However, for articles that are slideshows, the main images do not show up. I can see the entire article page and even the thumbnails. The main picture screen remains blacked out. I can not click the thumbnails and there are no arrows to advance the show. I do not see that the page is waiting on any items to load. The box for the image loads, just remains blacked out with thumbnails on the bottom of the box.

I have tried open MSN on both IE10 and google chrome.

As I've said, the page loads correctly, I can even go to the source of the article and view the slideshow on their webpage just fine.

I have no problems with videos or text articles. I thought maybe it was pop- up blockers, etc. but turned them off and restarted with no luck.

Any ideas why only articles with slideshows do not work?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Community. Sorry to hear that slideshows of MSN Homepage not appearing correctly.

Sometimes websites don't look like you expect them. This might be caused by a compatibility problem between Internet Explorer and the site you're on.

Open the website in Compatibility View. Once you turn on Compatibility View, Internet Explorer will automatically show that site in Compatibility View each time you visit. You can turn it off by removing it from your compatibility list.

Fix site display problems with Compatibility View.

I'm glad this issue is fixed for you. I also hope this issue has been fixed for everyone else.

Even if the issue is fixed, however, I would still recommend giving Firefox a try. It has a lot of great add-ons, chief among them being AdBlock Plus. Not only do I not have display ads on any web pages I view, I also haven't heard a commercial on Pandora or Youtube since switching over.

    Thanks David!

But my plot thickens........I did download firefox.

Now I have a very interesting thing happening.

The slideshows work on all 3 browsers.......until my computer goes to sleep. On all 3, once I get the screen back, the slideshows no longer work. I can completely restart and they come back....until sleep kicks in.

Anyway, now I am not sure what is going on. I am fine as long as I keep working. Will work all day long until it goes into sleep mode, then they go away.

    Strange!!!

I do like firefox by the way.

Compatibility  does not work. I have the same problem... IE 11, Windows 8.1 64bit.... Submitted this as a problem twice with no response...  Guess Microsoft isn't serious about the new MSN..

Try Firefox. The only thing IE is good for is ... downloading Firefox.

"The only thing IE is good for is ... downloading Firefox." LOL

I think IE 64 bit version has enhanced security built-in.  I tried to chang it in the advanced setting with no luck.  BTW, my IE11 32-bit  Windows 7 at my office works fine.

My Windows 7, 64-bit system has two versions of IE, one 32-bit and one 64-bit. The 64 bit has always had certain compatibility issues, with Java or Flash Player or Shockwave, so I used the 32-bit IE almost exclusively up until about a year-and-a-half ago when I switched to Firefox.

For more than two years previously, I had been reading about fixes of the compatibility issues on the 64-bit IE being in the works, and I was hoping these fixes would materialize so I could switch to the 64-bit browser. But other issues prompted me to switch to Firefox before that could happen.

Perhaps these compatibility issues still exist. I don't know. I do remember reading somewhere that the issues arose when using the IE 64-bit browser on 64-bit systems.

I am the OP and I don't know what MSN did, but I can see the slideshows again.

When I read this quoted post, I realized that this was my issue as I had ruled out other options.

I resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn't see them.

This morning, I had a issue with MSN being not responsive and when I could get back on the homepage had changed.

More content was added in the form of headline only stories and I could view the slideshows in both IE and Chrome.

I am hoping that MSN did read of this issue and has - or at least is working on - this issue.

Thank you all for your ideas and tips!
