New MSN homepage not loading slideshows

I am running windows 8 and was converted to the new MSN homepage. The page itself loads just fine. However, for articles that are slideshows, the main images do not show up. I can see the entire article page and even the thumbnails. The main picture screen remains blacked out. I can not click the thumbnails and there are no arrows to advance the show. I do not see that the page is waiting on any items to load. The box for the image loads, just remains blacked out with thumbnails on the bottom of the box.

I have tried open MSN on both IE10 and google chrome.

As I've said, the page loads correctly, I can even go to the source of the article and view the slideshow on their webpage just fine.

I have no problems with videos or text articles. I thought maybe it was pop- up blockers, etc. but turned them off and restarted with no luck.

Any ideas why only articles with slideshows do not work?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Community. Sorry to hear that slideshows of MSN Homepage not appearing correctly.

Sometimes websites don't look like you expect them. This might be caused by a compatibility problem between Internet Explorer and the site you're on.

Open the website in Compatibility View. Once you turn on Compatibility View, Internet Explorer will automatically show that site in Compatibility View each time you visit. You can turn it off by removing it from your compatibility list.

Fix site display problems with Compatibility View.

    Thanks, David42.

You confirmed my suspicions. I guess everyone is trying to make a buck .... at users' expense!

Sounds to me like Microsoft  doesn't want you blocking THEIR ads, or that MSN doesn't want you to keep THEM from tracking you or your ad choices. Pardon my cynicism, but I believe MSN has created this glitch intentionally in creating this sorry ad-revenue-driven website that puts content and its users a distant second and third.

I look for MSN to continue to find ways to get around tracking protection and ad blockers by tying their content into the ads, codewise or otherwise, then offering up these handy solutions like, "Hey, folks, just disable your tracking protection and ad blocking and you can see our content, along with all of our wonderful ads, and we'll be able to keep track of which ads you see so we can shove more of the same down your throat."

I use Firefox with AdBlock Plus. Currently, ABP not only blocks out that annoying banner ad that sometimes pops up at the top of the page, but also that nearly-constant ad at the top right of the page. However, it also takes the "Popular Searches" module out along with this ad. Now, I was going to say that this removal of Popular Searches was "unfortunate", but I just disabled ABP to see what was in the module and this was what I found.

"Boo Boo Grandma speaks"?? Stories on Sharon Stone, Katie Holmes, Joan Rivers' daughter, Katherine Heigl?? Thanks for sparing me that load of pure garbage, ABP. And shame on you, MSN, for polluting everyone's home pages with links to that pure garbage.

The fact that this top section is mostly just stories from the Entertainment section puked up and splattered across the top of the page is just further proof that you should allow us to choose whether or not we want this top section of stories you seem to want to spoon-feed us. Personally, I could do without it.

But I guess personal choices are a thing of the past at MSN.

You are welcome. No, it won't leave you vulnerable.  You may see more ads related to something that you have looked at.  Here is a link you can learn more:
