DirectDraw emulation still broken in Windows 10

Hello, Microsoft, please fix DirectDraw, considering Windows 10 is your last OS, and loads of people have complained about this in Windows 8, and it's STILL NOT FIXED IN 10. most games DX8 and below run horrible thanks to this, either screwed up colours and/or a very bad framerate to other problems such as sprites not loading. This is odd considering it was fine in Windows 7.

An example is Red Alert 2, it's unplayable unless you use a 3rd party directdraw emulation such as WineD3D.

Another example is Commandos 3, the graphics are corrupted and it crashes on some missions making it unplayable.

And no compatibility settings don't fix any of this.

All we need is Windows 7's DirectDraw emulation back since that was fine.

Cmon microsoft fix this!

You are almost correct about it.

Red Alert 2 and its expansion (Yuri revenge) has a digital "freeware" version in oficial server: xwis.net.

These versions work properly in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 with ddraw.dll (but no alt+tab function).

    (Windows 10)

Also, in the Origin version the game works very well because Origin Launcher execute the file called game.exe (not ra2.exe). BUT when the game start (multiplayer or single player) there is a laggy peformance (little freeze flow).

If we use the ddraw.dll (1 file) the game launches fine but we have lag in transition of menu. if we use the ddraw (4 files) the game (Origin version or whatever version) the main menu still freeze.

Again and here it is the sumary issues:

    Windows 10

Red Alert 2 - execute game.exe (any version - Origin, Xwis so forth) - game works but there is lag peformance (in game)

Red Alert 2 - execute Ra2.exe - game doesnt work at all. Ddraw w/ 4 files - main menu freeze

                                                                                               Wine3d - laggy peformance

*Only works w/ ddraw w/ 1 file - consequence: lag in menu transition.

    Try youself!

Red alert 2 has no digital version as far as im aware, but theres a freeware version of C&C Tiberian sun which has problems with framerate and invisible menus:

I have the box set of C&C including Red Alter 2 in Origin. Games work ok.

you dont read my explanation at all.

The Red Alert 2 from Origin doesnt work propely. again the game has a lag peformance when u start any kind game online.

try play online execute Origin version and tell me the concrete argument.

I an running the latest insider builds so game compatibility has been changing over time.

Pretty sure Black Dahlia doesn't play and its to do with directdraw also

I have noticed a few early DX1-8 class games are not working properly. More recent build of Windows 10 has improved the legacy game compatibility. All I know is this game is something like 6 CDROMs.

I noticed some reports that Black Dahlia was working with Windows 7, but some elements of the game were running faster than desireable, but it was still playable

WIndows 10 has downloaded some components when I tested some old games, so maybe you can try some other old games and see if they trigger some component updates.

Found a patch for the game too.
