Cougar Point was a problem for Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge can use the older CPU as both are LGA1155 for desktop machines. Mobile machines are unrepairable.

Hello, Microsoft, please fix DirectDraw, considering Windows 10 is your last OS, and loads of people have complained about this in Windows 8, and it's STILL NOT FIXED IN 10. most games DX8 and below run horrible thanks to this, either screwed up colours and/or a very bad framerate to other problems such as sprites not loading. This is odd considering it was fine in Windows 7.
An example is Red Alert 2, it's unplayable unless you use a 3rd party directdraw emulation such as WineD3D.
Another example is Commandos 3, the graphics are corrupted and it crashes on some missions making it unplayable.
And no compatibility settings don't fix any of this.
All we need is Windows 7's DirectDraw emulation back since that was fine.
Cmon microsoft fix this!

However, these machines are not afflicted with this particular issue.
They can both load much heavier games than this old RTS.

The menu of the game uses DirecDraw and I am experiencing very inconsistent execution (launch) of the game.
I have tested it on several computers (all running Windows 10 Home 64-bit). It either crashes, launches very slowly (over 1 minute) or launches normally (about 8 seconds).
I have the specs of all the computers if that is any help:
This one launches the game very slowly (1:20) and the game will crash on launch if I disable hardware acceleration for DirectDraw.
Oh, and while it slowly launches the entire screen will lag. Even the cursor moves slowly and occasionally jumps to where it should be. It's like the graphics card is choking on the old game.
Gaming PC:
Mainboard: MSI P67A-C43
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600 (3.40GHz)
Graphics: MSI GeForce GTX 980 Gaming 4G
Memory: 4x2GB (8GB) Kingston HyperX Blu 9905402-413.A00LF

Even DX9 games .... still working with Thresold2 (50fps) are becoming unplayable with Redstone (0,5fps or lower)...
Surprisingly, benchmarks runs near the same, as they should have been the only tested proggies....
I'm very very very disappointed by this (bad) "Anniversary update" that broke DX9 gaming on my two laptops with i5-2520M (HD3000) not so old (4 years old chip, 3 years old computers)..
As I rebuilt 1511 then 1607 on each computer, I confirm that the cause that killed my games are the new 0716' d3d...dll coming with REDSTONE1 .
Nothing to do with "inbox" intel drivers 4229 or 4559 (cab on store).
I search about that a long time, until i identifyed that the only change was the directX dll collection in Redstone upgrade.
So, nice job, Microsoft.
You want to force all our computer to update at any time you choose now, you tell us when we can be active and when not, but you can't do the qualifying quality job for your OS as a service! Now, I begin to find Ubuntu environment more and more interesting, thanks to our broken applications and your pitty services....

Tnx for this info. I keep reserved win 10 copy and using win 7 (best os for retro gaming, there is PAE patch for 32 bit, on net, plus you can shrink whole OS on ~ 1 gb and then put on ramdisk, hehehe, just name it! : D) Greetings.
