DirectDraw emulation still broken in Windows 10

Hello, Microsoft, please fix DirectDraw, considering Windows 10 is your last OS, and loads of people have complained about this in Windows 8, and it's STILL NOT FIXED IN 10. most games DX8 and below run horrible thanks to this, either screwed up colours and/or a very bad framerate to other problems such as sprites not loading. This is odd considering it was fine in Windows 7.

An example is Red Alert 2, it's unplayable unless you use a 3rd party directdraw emulation such as WineD3D.

Another example is Commandos 3, the graphics are corrupted and it crashes on some missions making it unplayable.

And no compatibility settings don't fix any of this.

All we need is Windows 7's DirectDraw emulation back since that was fine.

Cmon microsoft fix this!

Yes list all the games you feel have really poor performance that use ddraw and that were playing fine on WIndows 7.

    Hi Kevin,

To add a game to your list: Panzer General 3SE (Scorched Earth) does not work properly on Windows 10. When I updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10 the day before yesterday, my game didn't work properly anymore: the land units showed only a black shadow, but the air units were fine, and the rest of the game also. I downloaded a program that was suggested in a pop-up by Windows 10 (think it was an update of DirectX), but that didn´t help. Probably, if you can fix Panzer General 3d the problem is also fixed in 3SE, since these games are very, very close related. In the meantime I put an old computer with XP on the side to be able to play my all time favourite :).

If you need to have a free download of PG3SE, please let me know, I will provide it.

Thanks for taking this serious (it is the only game I play on computer) and my compliments for Windows 10 so far, I am quite impressed how well it works, even my printer works as perfect as ever, without additional work to connect it. Seeing the scope of changes Windows 10 brings, and the way you can easily update or even downgrade from it, this is to me the best achievement of Windows so far.

    regards,

    Herman.

Okay thank you! I've noticed a lot of 2D MMORPGs have had compatibility issues, too. Would you want information about them, or will the games in this thread suffice for now? If the compatibility issues end up having to be fixed game by game I don't want to add to your team's workload.

    Hi,

I work on the Game Compatibility team at Microsoft. A fix was made and confirmed for Swat 3. I confirmed it was playing very slow and now is working. It sounds like this fix did not work with all ddraw games. I have an open issue against Red Alert 2. It plays fine at 640x480 but comes to a crawl higher than that. I will gather the list of games mentioned here and get the appropriate person to investigate. Thanks for posting this issue and being a Windows Insider.
