Windows Update KB2952664 constantly failing on configure.

Hello

For a long time I am fighting with update KB2952664 installation. First time when I ran in to the problems I just hid it as it was optional but now I need it to reserve my copy of Windows 10 (this update is required to run GWX tool which is now not working on my system).

As for the KB2952664 it is constantly failing on the configuration screen after the reboot with the error code 80044015. Windows is automatically reverting the changes than.

I have tried quite a few suggestions found on the internet (like SFC repair etc.) but without any luck. By the way, this update was failing even on a clean Windows 7 installation as I reinstalled my system not long ago and this was the only KB that I was unable to install so it seems that the problem is not related to any software or configuration change on my Windows.

Blow I zipped CBS log and windows update log:

CBS.log

http://1drv.ms/1AOsVgh

WindowsUpdate.log

http://1drv.ms/1AOsYsD

Is there anyone who can advice on this problem?

Is there a possibility to reserve a Windows 10 copy without GWX tools so I will not need to install this problematic KB?

PA Bear, thanks for you help, but unfortunately bad news, no luck again.

I have done all steps without any modifications (even that I did not used McAfee or Norton - Clean Windows 7 Install).

Same WMI error - WindowsUpdate_80044015 (to be exact WBEMMOF_E_TYPE_MISMATCH2147762197 0x80044015) and fail on the configuration screen.

Roll up your sleeves & cross your fingers...

    ACTIONS

[You will want to print these instructions for offline reference. IMPORTANT => DON'T SKIP ANY STEP & perform all Steps in one, uninterrupted session!  If a Step says to reboot, reboot!]

1a. Right-click on the following link, select SAVE TARGET AS... & download the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop: http://us.mcafee.com/apps/supporttools/mcpr/mcpr.asp

1b. Right-click on the following link, select SAVE TARGET AS... & download the Norton Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english\_us\_canada/removal\_tools/Norton\_Removal\_Tool.exe

    1. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar).

3a. Right-click on the file you saved in Step #1a above and select Run as Administrator to run the McAfee utility. Don't TOUCH your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot.

3b. Right-click on the file you saved in Step #1b above and select Run as Administrator to run the Norton utility. Don't TOUCH your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot again.

4a. Right-click on the following link & save the download to your desktop: **ie8-rereg.all.zip** [1]

4b. Right-click on the file you saved in #4a & select EXTRACT ALL. This will create a new desktop folder also named ie8-rereg.all. The folder will contain both of the scripts below (plus a third one that you will NOT use).

          Note => The scripts are good for IE9, IE10 & IE11, too.

5a. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar), open the folder created in Step #4b above & double-click on the file named ie8-rereg.32on64.cmd to run the script.

5b. Repeat for the file named ie8-rereg.64on64.cmd then reboot.

    1. Re-assert Internet Explorer as the default Browser in the CUSTOM (<=important!) section of Set Program Access and Computer Defaults. [2]

7a. Right-click on the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop: http://www.slipstick.com/doit/chromehtml.reg [3]

7b. Double-click on the file you saved in #7a above & accept the prompt to MERGE the data with the Registry.

    1. Reset Internet Explorer per the instructions on this page => http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/reset-ie-settings

Note=> For optimal results, check the Delete personal settings option.

9a. Open Internet Explorer (only!) to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/windows-update-error-8000ffff [ignore the title & references to Vista].

9b. Ignoring any "Not recommended" or similar warnings, run Fix It (#50202) in DEFAULT and then AGGRESSIVE modes. [4]

    1. Reboot one last time then test by running a manual check for updates and seeing if KB2952664 will successfully install now.
    2. Reply to this post with a status report.

    Good luck!

KB3079904 is not [listed in Installed Updates]

KB2952664 [has been failing to install with a 80044015 error since I did the last (?) clean install of Win7 on 05 April 2015. The Lenovo Thinkpad had preinstalled OEM Windows 7 64-bit, last year I extracted the OEM licence (xrm-ms) and did a clean install from official Windows 7 Microsoft ISO and imported the licence using SLMGR.VBS.]

    1. Is KB3079904 offered to your computer when you run a manual check for updates and if so, will it successfully install?

    1. Have run the Windows Update troubleshooter since 05 April 2015?

COMMENT: KB2952664 has been revised & re-released at least four (4) times since 05 April 2015. It's possible that a previous release is "stuck" in the update queue.
