Learn more about the new features in MyWatchlist by clicking here: My Watchlist: FAQ

You may have recently imported data from the Classic MSN or my.msn.com  pages to the new MSN.com Money Watchlist/Portfolio and may not have received all of your Watchlist/Portfolio data. The MSN team has resolved the issue and you can now regain access to that information by following the steps below.

Note: These steps only apply if your Watchlist has already been imported and there is data missing. If you have not already imported a Watchlist, please go to the Watchlist, sign in, and you will then be prompted to begin the import. You may need to return to this step if you find that data is missing after your first attempt to import.

Step 1: Create a new Watchlist and delete any Watchlists from previous imports

Step 2: Re-import your existing Watchlist or Portfolio data from MSN.com or my.msn.com into a new Watchlist

Step 3: Clean any erroneous data imported into your new Watchlist(s).

If you need more details about the steps, please go to this article.

If you are still having difficulties or would like to report any errors, please reply to this thread.

Thank you!

Here is how I did my conversion to Morningstar (rationale below), combining comments from several posts:

    • Looking at each stock and each transaction on MSN Portfolio Manager, I typed each transaction into an excel file.
    • I did a test file first with just two stocks to make sure all good.
    • Top row of excel file:  Name  Ticker Shares Price Commission Date
    • Did each stock, checked total shares on each against PM as I went.  80 lines for me.
    • No commas, no $ signs, date in 7/15/2014 format
    • Save file as xls for safekeeping
    • Save file again as comma separated 'csv' format. (Ignore error messages)
    • Create account in Morningstar
    • Under Portfolio, Create, then Import
    • Select your CSV file
    • Pulls in fine
    • Can rename portfolio
    • Can do several times for multiple portfolio

    I used Morningstar because:

    a) Pilota727 recommended, and seemed to know his stuff

    b) You can select many column views, re-arrange, sort, etc; more than MSN

    c) Does auto-refresh

    d) Morningstar is in the business of providing tools, so unlikely to flake out on a whim as MSN did and as others not focused on this may do.

So far, so good, not happy to have to change, but actually now in a better tool.  I really glommed on to MSN originally due to the autorefresh.

    Good luck, all

Amen! This is not progress, for all the reasons those writing in have noted.

I can't import 15 years worth of data!

There was a problem migrating your watchlists. Please try again in few minutes.

I am especially concerned that the transaction history not be lost as it is required for tax purposes.  Is there a way for me to extract the data and just load it into an Excel spreadsheet?

I have been using MSN portfolio manager for more than 10 years. the one before the current silverlight was the best, I don't know why they got rid of it. the silverlight one is not great, but it basically works. this new watch list one is an unusable disaster. first of all, it will not accept share balances to 3 decimal places, of which all Fidelity accounts use this convention. secondly, it does not give you a simple total of your sub-accounts, like total of  "bond funds, stock funds, foreign stocks, etc." third, the user interface is a confusing jumble, not intuitive at all. fourth, If there are  print or export features I have not found them yet. 5th, why did they remove all the customizable column features like important ones YTD return and cost.

then to add insult to injury they say the functioning one will disappear Dec 22 !

bottom line, I  spent all day loading my info into Quicken. It took a lot of time and is not free, but at least it works. goodbye to this fiasco, I guess you get what you pay for

LOL, even the edit button in this forum doesn't work, so I will add another gripe I forgot to add that there is no category for long term or short term  capital gains, just a generic "other income" are you kidding me?
