FT looks pretty good.  Two items so far - entering older transactions can be frustrating as getting to proper date is an exercise in clicking; for mutual funds, there is no option to show a reinvested dividend.  I entered as a buy - gets me to the right spot, just not quite right for cumulative returns.  Am thinking of going back on the reinvested dividends and entering basis as -0-.  I think that will show me cumulative returns - but I lose out on correct basis.  Not perfect, but looking good.

Any one yet deleting all "my (useless) watchlist" transactions if you moved to another portfolio manager? or in other words any reason to believe that they can get this site back to something functional?

Im not familiar with FT dividends because I selected "dont include dividends" and dividends no longer appear in the transaction area.

handling dividends and you cannot deviate from that easily, so that if you say

you reinvest dividends and several times you collected the dividends, it will

continue to assume you reinvested the dividends. You need to delete the transactions

I setup dividends to be entered "manually". FT notifies me when dividends are paid (on ex-div date), and I can choose whether or not to reinvest dividends.

Maybe manual selection will be good for you?  I agree entering old transactions is a pain.  Im about 3/4 of the way through entering my transactions into FT.  Im keeping my watchlists, but I dont think the new PM will be functional in the future.

After you add the first transaction of a particular stock (say IBM), its faster to enter additional IBM transactions by clicking the down arrow in the ACTIONS column next to IBM and then selecting  ADD A TRANSACTION.  IBM is already entered for you.   Also make sure you select SELL when you have a sale.  If you dont select sell, the default BUY will be automatically entered and you then must delete the buy transaction and then enter it again as a sell.  In edit you cant change a buy to a sell or sell to buy.

I have more portfolios in FT.com than I did in the old PM.   In the old PM i had one TD Ameritrade portfolio.  In FT.com, TD Ameritrade is broken out into TDA Bonds, TDA International, TDA Tech and TDA Other.

Its more useful to see the tech stocks together rather than commingled in with all the other stocks.  Its also interesting to compare the performance of one portfolio with another.

At least there is some benefit to re-entering the data.  That and I think I like FT better than the old PM.

Just to clarify, I set-up my CNN portfolio manually. It is actually designed to be linked to your brokerage accounts. If it is linked it will update automatically with any changes and will probably track cost basis. I don't like linking anything to my brokerage accounts. I just don't trust the internet that much! The CNN portfolio is run by SigFig so it might be better to use the SigFig portfolio and cut out the middle man.

I tried the CNN website too, and it's really easy to link to your brokerage sites and download data from there.  So I linked to TDAmeritrade and my 1000 KMI warrants at $4.36/share were listed as being worth $436/share, totally skewing my numbers.  I reported this to them and they (sigfig) said they're looking into it.

I started a longer process of linking to TradeKing, and TradeKing said that by authorizing access to SigFig via the API, I was giving them the right to trade in my account as well as view it.  That was a bit too scary for me, so I said no and closed my CNN account.

I do like the FT portfolio manager on the whole, but it handles dividends in a difficult manner.  Besides the issue with mixing Reinvested Dividends and Cash Dividends in a single stock's history not being possible, the dividend information it uses appears to be the ex-dividend date and therefore the ex-dividend stock price, rather than the pay date and the pay date price.  This means that you'll end up with a different number of shares (assuming reinvested dividends) than you really have and there's no way to adjust it.

I also sent a complaint to Microsoft Investor Relations a couple weeks ago.  Why dont you move on to a good portfolio manager (eg. FT.com)?  The new PM will be a piece of junk for a long time to come.

OK, TW - I've been migrating (hahaha) over to FT. Spent many hours over the weekend entering transactions (can I bill Microsoft for this?). Glad I wrote that stuff down the previous weekend before the dearly departed Portfolio Manager disappeared. Yes, you do have to do a bunch of clicking to go way back! I like the way it accommodates all transaction entries, and seems to keep good track of ongoing gains and losses (though the dividend business is a little confusing). But I'm keeping my Morningstar portfolio list up to date, too. I think it's maybe clearer for showing the day's activity, and printing a daily report out. FT doesn't lay things out quite so simply. And of course doesn't give you the option to list/sort by symbol instead of name. And today a couple of its reports were even wrong! Showed correct closing price, but not the day's change $/%. Oops! So I guess I'll keep entering my transactions into it - MSN Watchlist is a farce - but not sure I'm done with Morningstar. And just can't take on new options like CNN or Google after all this...
