Learn more about the new features in MyWatchlist by clicking here: My Watchlist: FAQ

You may have recently imported data from the Classic MSN or my.msn.com  pages to the new MSN.com Money Watchlist/Portfolio and may not have received all of your Watchlist/Portfolio data. The MSN team has resolved the issue and you can now regain access to that information by following the steps below.

Note: These steps only apply if your Watchlist has already been imported and there is data missing. If you have not already imported a Watchlist, please go to the Watchlist, sign in, and you will then be prompted to begin the import. You may need to return to this step if you find that data is missing after your first attempt to import.

Step 1: Create a new Watchlist and delete any Watchlists from previous imports

Step 2: Re-import your existing Watchlist or Portfolio data from MSN.com or my.msn.com into a new Watchlist

Step 3: Clean any erroneous data imported into your new Watchlist(s).

If you need more details about the steps, please go to this article.

If you are still having difficulties or would like to report any errors, please reply to this thread.

Thank you!

I tried per your instructions to copy and past to an excel worksheet but must be doing something wrong.  Could you explain how as if talking to a computing newbie?  Thanks

The copy / paste only works on the old portfolio manager and it seems Microsoft has already stopped updating it.  I think the only option is to use a different web site, I have heard Morningstar has a good one.

This my last post and I'm un-subscribing the thread.

I share the instinct to try to find a way to make this new tool work, but I truly think most people on these threads are wasting their time unless they fit a narrow band that fits in to the new watchlist.

The new tool is not as good as the old one, and MS has very little reason to invest the real time and money to do so.

I shifted my daily watch list stuff to Morningstar as that is their business, and they want to upsell you into other services.  MS sell MS Money, but there is no real business model for MS on this portfolio manager.

Would encourage any new service you use have import/export from excel to limit future unplanned need to switch.

    Other unsolicited advice:

Clearly some of us were overusing the MS Portfolio Manager.  It was never meant to be your source of record for tracking basis for doing tax returns.

For true full tracking, I strongly suggest something like Quicken; I am a longtime avid user.  (I would note, I do not like Quicken for 'everyday,' up-on-the-screen most of the day-type tracking, as it has every holding in really more detail than I want to see everyday.  MS Portfolio (and now, for me, Morningstar) is for tracking the movements of things I may want to trade in soon, not longterm stuff.

In sum, likely power users should leave MS and find appropriate new tools, and spend no more time trying to make this MS offering work; it is likely not going to work.

    Good luck.

What does that portend for Portfolio Manager/My Watchlist?

I hope it portends that MS will have the good sense to revert back to the Money Portfolio Mgr. or at least give legacy users the option of using it instead of My Watchlist....like Coke/Frito Lay did w/their Classic product.

I guess I'm in a wait-and-see mode as well. My data haven't transferred at all. PM is empty, and WL says "We can't show you this right now. We'll get it fixed soon." Therefore, even if I had the time and patience to re-enter my holdings (forget about history), there's no place to do it on the screen with the aforesaid message. What a mess!
