Learn more about the new features in MyWatchlist by clicking here: My Watchlist: FAQ

You may have recently imported data from the Classic MSN or my.msn.com  pages to the new MSN.com Money Watchlist/Portfolio and may not have received all of your Watchlist/Portfolio data. The MSN team has resolved the issue and you can now regain access to that information by following the steps below.

Note: These steps only apply if your Watchlist has already been imported and there is data missing. If you have not already imported a Watchlist, please go to the Watchlist, sign in, and you will then be prompted to begin the import. You may need to return to this step if you find that data is missing after your first attempt to import.

Step 1: Create a new Watchlist and delete any Watchlists from previous imports

Step 2: Re-import your existing Watchlist or Portfolio data from MSN.com or my.msn.com into a new Watchlist

Step 3: Clean any erroneous data imported into your new Watchlist(s).

If you need more details about the steps, please go to this article.

If you are still having difficulties or would like to report any errors, please reply to this thread.

Thank you!

Adriana - Tell the brilliant Development Team that Price, Change, % Change, Day Gain, Total Gain, Total % Return all need to be on one page, not scattered in several different places. Very hard to use the Watchlist as it is. Have them look at Portfolio Manager to see what a useful site would be!

Just discovered this problem after not visiting my portfolio for a few days.

I go to  http://moneycentral.msn.com/stock_portfolio where I've tracked my investments for years, and now get a pop-up with the message "There was a problem with the online service. Click OK to refresh and see the last known data." Clicking OK just brings the same pop-up up again and again and I am unable to view my portfolio or use any of the options to export data.

Going to the recommended http://www.msn.com/en-us/money page only gets me to an empty Watchlist with no data in it. Deleting this empty watchlist and retrying the import just creates a new, also empty, watchlist.

I appear to be unable to either access the old portfolio or perform an import to the new site. If this is not fixed in a few days, I will lose years of data like everyone else here and will certainly leave msn for good.

Adriana, The Retry Import does not work.  The kb3004532 and all of its steps do not work.  Clearing browser, restarting, removing all add-ons, signing in and going to New Watchlist to be sure there is only on empty Watchlist -- none of this works.

Regarding the 250 limit -- I am sure I had more than 250 stocks listed in my old protfolio because it was almost 15 years of data which I hate to lose.  Now I can not even get into my Old portfolio to delete stocks because I can't open the Old Portfolio. I have the old link but when I go to it I get a warning box that says there is problem. Clicking on cancel in that box takes me to the New Watchlist with my one empty Watchlist.

Using the troubleshooting suggestions that are avasilable from the link on the new Watchlist does not work either.

I know you said that MSN is working on a solution but housands of us with the problem are losing faith and the Dec 22 deadine for improt is just days away.

I am using MS Vista with IE 9.0

At the bottom of kb3004532 I clicked NO and went to chat support. They said they could not help with this issue. They gave me phone  800 386 5550  who would not help because I do not have a Paid membership with MSN.   This is a free portfolio service and MSN decided to change it so I believe they should be willing to help the many thousands of people who have used the Portfolio for many years with very important data for all of us.

    Adriana,

The new Watch List lacks all the functionality that made the old Portfolio Manager worth using.  It's sad to say but every modification of the PM over the last five years has removed functionality and limited capability.  The new version might be of value to someone new to, or considering, investing but not to anyone who has been a long term investor {I was a MSN beta tester in 1995 and have used PM since 1997 to track my investments}.

If PM will not be resurrected is there any way we could get a csv file of all of our stored transactions?

    Happy Holidays!

PS. Would you be willing/able to provide the code/db structure for the old PM so individuals could run it themselves for their personal investments?

    Hello again,

While I wait for an update from the product team, have the users who did not get the reimport prompt tried going to Migration Support page and then clicking on Retry Import? Please let me know if that's working or not.

There has also been an update on a KB article addressing the issue with the limit on the number of items that can be imported. You can only import into a Watchlist that has fewer than 250 items. Attempts to re-import lists with more than 250 items will fail.

    Thanks,

    Adriana

    Adriana,

    1. Retry Import does not appear to work.  Throws me to My Watchlist, which displays Watchlist News.
    2. Are “250 Items” stocks, transactions or the sum of the two?

    Thanks,

    Arnie Halpern

    Thanks for your reply, Arnie.

Are you signed in when you try the Retry Import?

250 items = lists . Does that answer your question?

    Adriana,

Yes, I am signed in when I Retry Import.

250 items = lists?  Please define "lists". Not sure what "lists" means.

    Thanks,

    Arnie
