Learn more about the new features in MyWatchlist by clicking here: My Watchlist: FAQ

You may have recently imported data from the Classic MSN or my.msn.com  pages to the new MSN.com Money Watchlist/Portfolio and may not have received all of your Watchlist/Portfolio data. The MSN team has resolved the issue and you can now regain access to that information by following the steps below.

Note: These steps only apply if your Watchlist has already been imported and there is data missing. If you have not already imported a Watchlist, please go to the Watchlist, sign in, and you will then be prompted to begin the import. You may need to return to this step if you find that data is missing after your first attempt to import.

Step 1: Create a new Watchlist and delete any Watchlists from previous imports

Step 2: Re-import your existing Watchlist or Portfolio data from MSN.com or my.msn.com into a new Watchlist

Step 3: Clean any erroneous data imported into your new Watchlist(s).

If you need more details about the steps, please go to this article.

If you are still having difficulties or would like to report any errors, please reply to this thread.

Thank you!

Thanks for the quick reply! That's what I thought regarding the 250 limit. None of my individual lists/accounts had anywhere close to 250. I just couldn't figure out why I was having issues migrating... and in going back over the instructions, I started to think well, damn, maybe they meant 250 limit for ALL entries. Good to know that's not the case I guess, but with the deadline looming, I'm still unable to migrate my lists/accounts over, and I can't figure out why...

I just tried to select only my most important accounts/lists (leaving 4 or 5 lists/accounts previously checked, deselected this time) and then clicked "Continue". As with past attempts, the "Migrating!" window pops up and the circular dots continually spin while the window refreshes every couple of seconds, leaving me to believe that the accounts are indeed migrating over. After 5-10 minutes of this, I'm met with an error. I even tried to just migrate one small account. I selected only 1 folder (with just 40 stock entries in it) renamed it and left all other accounts/lists unchecked and clicked "Continue" to initiate the migration, but it failed...

I keep getting one of two errors:

    Whoops!

We can't show you this right now. We'll get it fixed soon.

There was a problem migrating your watchlists. Please try again in few minutes.

Those that can pull up the old PM are ahead of me.  Have not had it for two weeks.  I don't have a lot of entries but cannot do anything.  Just "OUT OF LUCK"!!!!!!!  Not happy but MSN will not listen nor do anything to help, so...........

Hey, Carol. Try logging in to MSN Money, and when logged in go to: http://moneycentral.msn.com/stock\_portfolio

I then scroll down so the next 8 show and hit Ctrl-Shift-F11 and it autocaptures the next 8 and adds them to the chain of captures.  Repeat until you have all 48.  Then go to each capture, hit Ctrl-C, switch to excel or word (I placed a portfolio in a separate excel worksheet) and hit Ctrl -V.  Do this 6 times and you're done.  Thanks, Microsoft!

I've been joyfully spending the weekend doing it the medieval way - writing each transaction by hand. Hey, at least it's all in one place now! Thanks, Microsoft!

Essentially, yes, because a common code base is easier and cheaper to maintain.  Unfortunately, using standards that all platforms subscribe to doesn't usually lead to the best user experience, and in this case, it was exacerbated by what appears to be woeful project management.

Hey - maybe it's the same folks who gave us Windows 8.1!

I believe the 250 is stocks per account. Make sure none of your old PM accounts have more than 250 stocks in them which have quantity of 1 or higher (it does not seem to import completely sold stocks so you can probably exclude those from counting the 250).

Also as a precaution, rename all the old accounts on that screen to guarantee they will not try to import into an existing watchlist with the same name (from a previous attempt) that already has stocks in it which could cause you to be going over the 250 limit. You can rename them later if they migrate over. You should try this first if you have not already.

As far as not checking all the accounts, at one time, despite that warning message, you could uncheck all but one and try one at a time and then repeat with the others, but they have made changes to the import process since then so I don't know if that still holds true - the message certainly does not imply such but that was the same message that appeared when one could do it so who knows. Not even sure if it would help with that particular error though.

One thing you could try is use a different Microsoft account, create two accounts in the old PM, if you even still can, with a couple example transactions in each, then test checking off just one of them. If it succeeds, try to do a retry import and see if the other is still there and available for import.
