I think you will like FT.com once you become familiar with it. Right now Im entering transactions into FT.com and I still have a long way to go. I used the old PM for 15 years, and for the most part Im only entering stocks I currently own or stocks that were sold in 2010 or later (not beyond the 3 year statute of limitations).
TW,
Thanks very much for the pointer to FT.COM. I would not have found it on my own, I think. It has many positives, including showing all portfolio results on a single screen, allowing drilldown to see contributions to totals, and once you enter in your buys and sells, it throws in dividend transactions from its database. It also exports from FT.COM into csv files for all transactions.
The negatives, and I may just not understand enough, are that
- to enter transactions you cannot enter the date but must click on a calendar icon to go back month by month until you finally hit the month you want,
- you must select a way of handling dividends and you cannot deviate from that easily, so that if you say you reinvest dividends and several times you collected the dividends, it will continue to assume you reinvested the dividends. You need to delete the transactions.
- if you had a split, you need to make sure you only enter the RAW figures, not the split adjusted figures, prior to the split's occurrence. So if you bought 100 shares for $50/share and it split 2:1, PM would have changed your original basis to be 200 shares at $25/share, but FT wants that 100 at $50/share.
- the values for reinvested dividend shares seem to be computed a bit off vs what the brokerage reported to me
- it doesn't read in a .CSV file to load transactions
If I got anything wrong, please let me know.
Thanks again for the suggestion. And thank you, Microsoft, for idle hands are the devil's playground.
