You may have recently imported data from the Classic MSN or my.msn.com  pages to the new MSN.com Money Watchlist/Portfolio and may not have received all of your Watchlist/Portfolio data. The MSN team has resolved the issue and you can now regain access to that information by following the steps below.

Note: These steps only apply if your Watchlist has already been imported and there is data missing. If you have not already imported a Watchlist, please go to the Watchlist, sign in, and you will then be prompted to begin the import. You may need to return to this step if you find that data is missing after your first attempt to import.

Step 1: Create a new Watchlist and delete any Watchlists from previous imports

Step 2: Re-import your existing Watchlist or Portfolio data from MSN.com or my.msn.com into a new Watchlist

Step 3: Clean any erroneous data imported into your new Watchlist(s).

If you need more details about the steps, please go to this article.

If you are still having difficulties or would like to report any errors, please reply to this thread.

Thank you!

Your'e welcome. I found FT.com because someone mentioned it a couple years ago in an investing website's discussion group.

You got everything right, but I havent looked at importing with a .CVS file.  I'm transfering all  transactions manually from the old PM to FT.com, so at this point it is not an issue for me.

I didnt want to deal with dividends, so I selected the last choice "dont include dividends" and they no longer appear in the transaction area.  Maybe i will revisit divdends later, but dividends do create alot of clutter in the transaction area (as they once did with the old PM awhile back).

I dont know if you have noticed this yet, but once you add a stock's first transaction, its faster to click the down arrow in the "Actions" column next to the stock  to make additional transactions for that stock.  The stock symbol is already entered for you.

Also, you can have multiple views of your portfolios and the columns in each view can be customized.

I cant find where FT.com calculates total cost for you  (multiply # of shares times price plus commission) the way the old PM did in the transaction area.  I wish FT would also calculate the transaction cost.

Also, the results for todays activity drop off earlier than they did for the old PM.  Its 10:23pm on the West Coast and I see alot of zeros in todays value change column.

Moving to FT.com is time consuming, but its also a chance to setup portfolios that are more organized and useful.

Im glad you like it so far.

I think you will like FT.com once you become familiar with it.  Right now Im entering transactions into FT.com and I still have a long way to go.  I used the old PM for 15 years, and for the most part Im only entering stocks I currently own or stocks that were sold in 2010 or later (not beyond the 3 year statute of limitations).

    TW,

Thanks very much for the pointer to FT.COM.  I would not have found it on my own, I think.  It has many positives, including showing all portfolio results on a single screen, allowing drilldown to see contributions to totals, and once you enter in your buys and sells, it throws in dividend transactions from its database.  It also exports from FT.COM into csv files for all transactions.

The negatives, and I may just not understand enough, are that

    • to enter transactions you cannot enter the date but must click on a calendar icon to go back month by month until you finally hit the month you want,
    • you must select a way of handling dividends and you cannot deviate from that easily, so that if you say you reinvest dividends and several times you collected the dividends, it will continue to assume you reinvested the dividends.  You need to delete the transactions.
    • if you had a split, you need to make sure you only enter the RAW figures, not the split adjusted figures, prior to the split's occurrence.  So if you bought 100 shares for $50/share and it split 2:1, PM would have changed your original basis to be 200 shares at $25/share, but FT wants that 100 at $50/share.
    • the values for reinvested dividend shares seem to be computed a bit off vs what the brokerage reported to me
    • it doesn't read in a .CSV file to load transactions

If I got anything wrong, please let me know.

Thanks again for the suggestion.  And thank you, Microsoft, for idle hands are the devil's playground.

    Hi Adriana,

I was able to migrate successfully from PM to watchlist a couple of weeks ago and watchlist was working ok. Since the old PM has been shut down my watchlist no longer works. I can see the default watchlist but the pull down arrow to select other watchlists does not work and the tabs for fundamentals, portfolio holdings, and transactions do not work either. I am frozen in the default watchlist summary and can't select anything else. I have tried refreshing the screen to no avail. How can I get watchlist working?

Too bad MS wouldn't keep PM running a few more days so everyone could get their year end data in the same format that they used for the whole year and in many cases for the past 15 or more years!!!

    Thanks, Bob

Watchlist does not have all my previous stock symbols --- PM had them.

    For Example:

    FUND   Royce Focus Trust

    PPX      PPL Preferred Stock

    ISF       ING Preferred Stock

It is not just a Preferred Stock issue - - - Watchlist shows some of my Preferred Stocks.

I have to look through 30 pages of transactions to find something --- at least they are now in alphabetical order - -  for a while that didn't work either.
