KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

sfc /scannow

DISM /online /get-packages /format:table | findstr KB2919355

    Hi Susan,

Just to bring threads together, there are other discussions going on as well: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_update/windows-81-update-1-failing-to-install-with-errors/c3071122-e903-4775-b659-e98784bc786c?page=1

Is anyone co-ordinating the responses so that people are updated with progress from MS - we are all in need of a successful fix for this issue?

All my attempts to troubleshoot this have come to nought.

    • I attempted Windows Update numerous times - all failed.
    • I used the Windows Update Troubleshooter, the DISM Tool and SFC/scannow - no change.
    • I decided to try the standalone installers for KB2919355  - this failed too.
    • I obtained Microsoft Support and agreed to Remote Access - the tech duplicated all my checks and came to the conclusion a file was corrupted somewhere, then offered my the Premium Service at £95 - which I kindly declined.
    • I set up an additional User Account on my PC (Local User) and tried to update from there - but this didn't work and I have now lost all my Windows Update History.
    • Finally, in desperation I tried the Refresh PC function - but this too failed

I am no longer willing to spend any more time on it until there is a central solution - at least I have a working desktop currently.

[A self-build AMD FX4-4300 AM3+ 3.8GHz with 8GB Corsair DDR3 with two HDD: 160GB OS and 250GB DATA. Win 7 initially, then upgraded to Win 8 Pro and Media Center... now running Win 8.1]

This is deemed a security update.  It is a free support case.  Whom exactly did you deal with at support?

I'm sorry I really cannot remember his name. After the Remote Access terminated, all the dialogue to support seems to be lost... and I didn't think to keep a separate record of all the detail... such as the tech's name.
