KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

sfc /scannow

Microsoft reissues botched Windows 8.1 Update KB 2919355 | Microsoft windows - InfoWorld:

    http://www.infoworld.com/t/microsoft-windows/microsoft-reissues-botched-windows-81-update-kb-2919355-241891

In looking at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42327 there is a new part of the update called "clearcompressionflag.exe".  The instructions now say "These KB's must be installed in the following order: clearcompressionflag.exe, KB2919355, KB2932046, KB2959977, KB2937592, KB2938439, and KB2934018."

Not sure if this new bundle will help everyone, please let me know if there is any change and you can get this installed please?

Im very pleased to report that the update finally installed for me this morning after running the new issued update released 5/5/14.

i can say i was sceptical until it reached 100% configuring and i finally saw the store icon on the taskbar.

Thank you susan and everyone else on this thread for continuing to keep up the pressure to get a fix.

good luck those of you still struggling.

p.s. i ran the update from windows updates. and had done nothing since the last fail, so no attempts to restore health etc, just ran it and it worked fine.

After several days of frustrating attempts I finally found the SOLUTION to same problem with code 80073712.

    Here: http://www.eightforums.com/windows-updates-activation/45441-update-kb2919355-finally-successful-after-multiple-fails.html

    Here steps for Win8.1 32bit:

    1. Download offline installers for the six updates in the KB2919355 set:http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42327
    2. Installed the five updates other than KB2919355 itself (i.e. KB2959977, KB2938439, KB2937592, KB2934018 and KB2932046, in that order)
    3. Restart computer (possibly more than once, I can't quite remember)
    4. Fix Windows Update: How do I reset Windows Update components?
    5. Scan Windows system components: sfc /scannow
    6. Remove KB2919355 package:

dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1.14 7. Clean up the WinSxS folder: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase 8. Restart computer 9. Run offline installer: Windows8.1-KB2919355-x86.msu 10. Restart computer (I had to do this at least twice, but check Windows Update each time until the update is listed as "successful")

Here steps for Win8.1 64bit (my system):

    1. Download offline installers for the six updates in the KB2919355 set: Download Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based Systems (KB2919355) from Official Microsoft Download Center
    6. Remove KB2919355 package:

dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14 7. Clean up the WinSxS folder: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase 8. Restart computer 9. Run offline installer: Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu 10. Restart computer (I had to do this at least twice, but check Windows Update each time until the update is listed as "successful")

My opinion is that crucial step is the command in point 7.
