KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

sfc /scannow

DISM /online /get-packages /format:table | findstr KB2919355

DISM /online /remove-dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1

cleanmgr.exe

@echo off

Echo Cleanup complete

Same here.  Did DISM and all that, five tries, never gets 355 on.

One time system got into an Automatic Repair Loop.  Needed to use a recovery thumb drive to roll back to a prior restore point.

The module in the SRTTRAIL.LOG that was failing, said to be corrupt, was AGP440.SYS.  My system is AMD all around, maybe that's it?  Or just a red herring.

I did get my system back without refreshing or losing anything, so I'm going to make a big batch of popcorn and subscribe to this thread (there are two others, too) and sit back and watch what happens.

Same / similar issues here... previously running Windows 8.1  All updates are current, including the Microsoft Tuesday patches.  Patch downloads, installs, restarts... gets part way through and says that it cannot complete and rolls back.  Spent 3 hours working with Microsoft Support this morning.  They can't figure it out.. kept trying the same things over and over...resetting the windows update cache, uninstalling virus scan, disabling all startup services, you name it.  They said they had to escalate to a Level 2 support technician and it'll be tomorrow evening before they would be able to call to troubleshoot.  Case SRX1242147524ID

If your experience with Support is like mine today, I'd suggest you forget it.  I was on the phone for about 3 hours - ended up with a pc that was booting to a black screen with 3 popups of her Remote Procecure Call -had to use Macrium Reflect image to get back to image before Tuesday's Windows updates.  I later received email instructions from her, as some have posted on here about DISM, etc - only to find non-valid commands.....my faith and patience are really shaken at this point.  What is going on Microsoft?

The problem is unless you have access to MSDN or TechNet, I don't think the OEMs will give you included media.

For anyone looking for a quick fix on this, I've yet to find it.  I'm opening up cases hoping that we can find a better solution than a total rebuild.

Hang tight everyone, we'll keep you posted.

Ive also tried to get an ISO to try doing the refresh.  But there is another issue.  I dont have original disc now and I had updated to 8.1 via the store.  I extracted the KEY via Belarc....but guess what.  The KEY now on my machine from the Store is NOT VALID for anything.  Cant download any iso because the key from store is not good for anything.

Wanted to do this:   A way to refresh without losing ANY of your software, even the desktop 3rd p[arty stuff.
