I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

sfc /scannow

DISM /online /get-packages /format:table | findstr KB2919355

DISM /online /remove-dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

DISM /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase

cleanmgr.exe

@echo off

Echo Cleanup complete

pause

I ended up doing a "repair" : re-run setup. Keeps all apps and settings, and fixed this problem installing 8.1 update

Since everything else didn't help me (Win 8.1 Pro Media Center, updated from Win 8 Pro MC, originally installed as multiboot environment together with XP MCE and Win 7), this "repair" was the weapon of choice, since I started with errors while updating, more errors and nothing to restore using DISM and so on, and finally missing files for a refresh:

Get your Win 8.1 iso, mount it and run setup.

Enter your product key (things are might getting difficult here, depending on your "windows history" -> generic key) and proceed with settings and apps untouched.

After some cups of coffee, several reboots and installing the missed updates since Win 8.1 vanilla, everything is installing and working fine without errors!

Hopefully, MS will fix the native update for everyone else and those without time and technical understanding...

I purchased a Win8 upgrade from Win7 for like $30 when MS had that deal.  I cannot seem to get an ISO for 8.1, since it says my key is not valid for 8.1.  I don't even know how to get my ISO for Win8 at this point.

The consumers should not have to jump through hoops based on MS issues.

I’m seeing the same sort of problems installing KB2919355 but as yet I’ve not spotted an Error Code. I have Windows 8.1 Pro x64 installed ( Technet ISO )

    Symptoms –

    • Windows Update Downloads and Installs KB2919355
    • Reboot Machine as Required
    • Installing update(s) gets to 19% (I never see 20%) and then reports that it can’t complete the update and tries again and again it gets no further than 19%
    • Reboot
    • Another attempt to install update(s) and again no further than 19%
    • Another Reboot followed by an Un-Doing of changes
    • Windows Update History reports a successful installation of KB2919355 despite the failure

    Actions -

    • Windows Installation is around 10 days
    • Have tried DISM without any problems reported
    • Have tried an SFC Scan without any problems reported
    • Have tried downloading the update via a direct link with the same results
    • Have run the Windows Update Trouble Shooter which reports and error with the last Update but it’s unable to fix it. No further details are given. It also reports some corruption but claims that these have been fixed, however if I run to tool again it reports the same corruption and again tries to fix

My Virus Killer (NIS 2014) has been switched off during this process.

My CBS Files can be found here - http://1drv.ms/1qxpJu0

I hope that the above helps in some way to solve this rather annoying and time consuming problem.

Enter your product key (things are might getting difficult here, depending on your "windows history" -> generic key) and proceed with settings and apps untouched.

As stated before... OEM-licenses with preinstalled Windows 8 computers don´t come with a unique key... right? So "getting" a windows 8.1 ISO is not an option for many of us.

If I´m wrong... please tell me so. Can I really get myself a 8.1 ISO and enter a valid unique key for my preintalled Packard Bell? Is there any key for my machine at all?

Up to now I have made a total whipe of my laptop and just installed everything from scratch... nothing has been installed outside Windows Update and Store. I still get this problem.
