KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

    We shouldn't have to do all this. We shouldn't have to refresh. We shouldn't have to reinstall. This is a joke! The silence from Microsoft speaks volumes.

    Enter your product key (things are might getting difficult here, depending on your "windows history" -> generic key) and proceed with settings and apps untouched.

    As stated before... OEM-licenses with preinstalled Windows 8 computers don´t come with a unique key... right? So "getting" a windows 8.1 ISO is not an option for many of us.

    If I´m wrong... please tell me so. Can I really get myself a 8.1 ISO and enter a valid unique key for my preintalled Packard Bell? Is there any key for my machine at all?

    Up to now I have made a total whipe of my laptop and just installed everything from scratch... nothing has been installed outside Windows Update and Store. I still get this problem.

    Installation worked for me with generic keys, afterwards I changed/activated Windows with my upgrade key...

    For your OEM Version, there might be tools extracting your preinstalled key.

    I believe my key is for Win8?  Will this cause issues if I have to re-install?  I'm currently running Win8.1 (just not this update).  I click on those links and it basically starts the install process.  I just want to download the ISO.  How do I do that?

    Honestly, I'm not 100% sure I want to go through this process.  Some people have the issue even after a clean install.

    The install process starts with downloading all files, After it finishes, you are asked for the next actions. Here you can choose to save all files as an ISO.

    I was sceptical too in running the setup again, but everything (software, driver, setting) remains installed as it was previously...
