KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I volunteered my cbs log zipped and the dism log to Susan's email address although I wasn't part of this thread. I mainly follow Susan on the Windows Secrets newsletter and happened on this forum while searching for a solution.

The dism routine posted here worked for me; cleared out the package

The sfc scannow identified two issues..a canon printer configuration file which came with the laptop and I had moved the shortcut for Media Player into the Accessory folder in the start menu. Both these issues were repaired.

Today a phone call from the support centre and the remote control feature went into effect.

The technician saw that I had cleared everything out and she didn't have to do that so the individual files for this update were downloaded.

She installed the individual parts and said 'Hopefully, this will install correctly. Not an encouraging statement.

When the final large update installed she said to me it was the first machine today that had the install be completeand she had been on the phone for many hours with other clients.

In fact, the manager came on the phone as a follow up conversation. It must have been an 'occassion'

Everything is working on my ACER-v5 non touch laptop and I don't really see anything different because I was booting to the desktop (after logging in) anyway.

This 'repair' took from 1.30 p.m to 7.00 p.m The download was 3.5 hrs which was actually less time than the Tues download. This is a rural satellite hookup.

I'm sorry to read how many have not had success and resorted to reinstalls.

I was prepared to take the laptop off the internet connection and do without the update but I'm very pleased with the Remote control support

I'm thankful for the effort Susan has put into this and the DISM info posted.

There is something in common with my earlier post.

I restored the original windows 8.1 start menu file structure from my 32bit netbook, by copying the entire thing over . My install didnt finish, but it got further along noticably. Now my cbs logs say im missing 6 drivers. I cant get these because I cleaned my filerepository (with "Driverstore Explorer") to remove 6 drivers completely unnecessary to proper system functionality, or so i thought. I have a 64 bit system that I need these drivers for; I cant copy them from my 32bit netbook.

If anyone knows a way I can restore (and probably register) the original drivers that came with windows 8(.1). I would be interested to see what happens.

The aforementioned errors are all I can find in all of my cbs logs.

I had previously modified my start menu heavily in Windows 7, was it preserved through the upgrades?

Throwing my hat in.  4 Windows 8.1 systems.  3 are Surface Pro2's, native windows 8.1.  The other is a W8 laptop (OEM) with Media Center upgraded to 8.1 months ago.  All working previously. Problem free.   

I'm an IT professional.  Have tried all the fixes here (except reset and clean install).  Can't spend any more time on this.  Others pay for my time.  I can't give it to MS for free.  Would rather not start over.  I've seen MS through worse and like everything else this too will pass.  Its a shame because these mistakes gravely affect customer satisfaction and opinion.  I was an early adopter of W8 and have already deployed many 2012 Servers.  I like metro.  I'm hoping that patience will win the day.         

I managed to upgrade 3 systems via Windows Update automatically with no issues.

I also managed to install the update in 2 offline VMs (one 32 Bit and the other 64 Bit) and one offline system which had only installation with the Windows 8.1 .iso and the generic product key. These had the following installed:

64 Bit

• Windows 8.1 Update KB2919442
• Windows 8.1 Update 1 KB2919355

32 Bit

• Windows 8.1 Update KB2919442
• Windows 8.1 Update 1 KB2919355

There were no issues.

Were any of your systems Windows 8.0 and upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the Store?

THANK YOU!  Just as you posted this, the MS Tech Rep also sent it to me via email.  I tried it once and it didn't work.  Then, in the back of my mind, i remembered somewhere I had read that enabling all Services under msconfig helps also.  So, I took your information enabled all Services in msconfig - and Wallah it worked! Thank so much for your help.  I really appreciate it. I had just about given up - succeeded on my 7th try.    

Surface Pro 128 user here.  At time of purchase, I used a MSFT Media Center key on Windows 8 to add Media Center.  Then upgraded to Windows 8.1 via store when that was released.

No third party antivirus, basically only Microsoft apps installed: Office 2013, Visual Studio 2012, SQL Server 2012.  I install all patch Tues patches every time they are released.  The system is basically as pure Microsoft as you can get, its Microsoft hardware and Microsoft software, with very little else installed.

8.1 Update failed on the Surface Pro initially via Windows Update, after rebooting it reverted back with 'Failure configuring Windows Updates'.  

I have tried all the DISM, SFC, clean boot etc suggestions from Microsoft and forums, using Windows Update and the offline installation download numerous times, and it fails the same each time.  I have tried using a Restore Point prior to this patch, but System Restore fails to restore.

Other PCs I have, both Dell and whitebox systems, all running Windows 8.1 Pro Media Center upgraded fine, the only upgrade issue has been with my Surface Pro!

As a 20+ year developer in the MSFT ecosystem, this is severely testing my loyalty....
