KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

sfc /scannow

DISM /online /get-packages /format:table | findstr KB2919355

cleanmgr.exe

@echo off

Echo Cleanup complete

pause

    Hi,

News from Microsoft (here in Spain):

Now when you get Error 80073712 in WU, there is a link to a help page from MS proposing 3 solutions:

1- Run Windows Update Assistant (with a link to dowload it: WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab).

    OR:

    2- Use DSIM:

    1. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
    2. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    OR:

    3- Refresh Windows.

    AND retry installation.

    Edit:

For those understanding spanish, here a copy of the help page:

I am having problems installing KB2919355 on one of my Windows 8.1 x64 pc's.  I have run SFC Scannow and DISM and no corruption found.  There is no malware - per MBAM, HitmanPro, and MRT.  I can install Windows Defender updates and all the other Windows Updates today,  Pc has no fragmentation. and all Windows Updates have been installed EXCEPT KB2919355.  I System Restored pc to just before the point when Windows Updates were installed today and tried again, but that didn't help either. I also tried Clean Boot with no success.

KB2919355 goes through the download and installation procedure, until it get to 99% install and then shows "We couldn't complete the updates Undoing Changes Do not turn off your computer".  It then reverses the update and restarts - about a 30 minute task.     Windows Event Viewer shows Error 0x800F0922.

If anyone has suggestions for a solution, please post it.  Appreciate any help you can provide.  At this point, after 3 tries, I am exhausted and out of ideas.

I have had same problem. Check free space in your "System reserved partition". In my case was only 3MB free from 350MB and this wasn't enough for KB2919355 installation. If you have same problem, see my posts in other thread regarding 0x800f0922 error: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_update/windows-update-kb2919355-fails-to-install-error/aec97e6d-6b14-4bc6-a681-b418d8c13376?page=2

I have not received Kb2919355 via windows update. I did receive it on all my other computers.

I was not replying to a post of yours. That being said...

KB2919355 is being slowly rolled-out to Win8.1 computers worldwide. A given computer might not be offered KB2919355 until (much) later this month.

There are a myriad of reasons why you couldn't install KB2919355 manually & got a "does not apply to your system" error. To avoid even more confusion, you can begin your own, new thread if you need assistance.

TIP: Chances are there won't be a "One size fits all" fix for these problems.

    <EDIT>

Finally, a fix for Error 80073712 from Windows 8.1 Update (KB2919355)!
