I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

sfc /scannow

DISM /online /get-packages /format:table | findstr KB2919355

DISM /online /remove-dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

DISM /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase

cleanmgr.exe

@echo off

Echo Cleanup complete

pause

with placing on the taskbar i mean the Store.

Last thing i tried was cleaning up first after removing the update,

    Ran the sfc scan.

    run cleanmgr.exe

    then ran the microsoft autofix

    reboot

the manually installed the update ... 100% succeeded.

Now rebooting ... fingers crossed !

I have two laptops, an HP Compaq 2510p with 8.1 Pro without Media Center and an Lenovo T400 with 8.1 Pro with Media Center. The one without Media Center updated just fine, but the Lenovo not after several attempts. The other difference is that the succesful laptop has an microsoft account in use and the Lenovo has a local account in use. Maybe that is the issue with the update because they also change some things there within this update and place it on the taskbar. What are others people using i wonder ?

P.S. The Lenovo has 4 GB memory and the HP 2 GB. Both are x64 versions in Dutch.

I have tried EVERY suggestion in this thread on my stock standard, pure Microsoft software, Surface Pro 128 with MC, with no joy.

I have attempted this install via WIndows Update and via offline installer well over 10 times now, with it failing every time.

I have tried the DISM, SFC, winclean, WindowsUpdateDiagnostic etc suggestions, and every time after reboot I get to 99% complete configuring updates before it reverts to 'Failure configuring Windows Updates. Undoing Changes'.

    ARRGGGGHH beyond frustrated.

    I feel you bro. :(

    "sigh"

Have you tried a repair install (preserving your settings and programs)?

This method actually work on me and I install the kb2919355

    Download offline installers:

            http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42335

            Fix Windows Update:

            http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/

            Scan Windows system components:

            -sfc /scannow

            Remove KB2919355 package:

            -dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14

            Clean up the WinSxS folder:

           - dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase

Clean up disk with system files remove:

           - cleanmgr.exe

            Restart computer

            Run offline installer:

           - Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu

but when I restart my laptop it says "We couldn't complete the updates undoing changes Don't turn off your computer."

    !@#$%^&*

A repair install (while selecting the option to keep settings and programs) worked painlessly on the first try.

(Too bad it was after a week of little sleep trying everything posted here and at other sites.)
