KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

    Solved!

After many hours I finally installed KB2919355 update.  I tried all the solutions from previous posts both with Windows Update and standalone installers many times with no success. I don't really know what became the key point of bringing the smile to my face, because it's nothing new. Maybe just the order of commands, but it worked. So, these are my steps:

    1. Download offline installers:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42335 2. Fix Windows Update:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/ 3. Scan Windows system components:

    sfc /scannow 4. Remove KB2919355 package:

dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14 5. Clean up the WinSxS folder:

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase 6. Clean up disk with system files remove:

cleanmgr.exe 7. Restart computer 8. Run offline installer:

    Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu

Success! with prompt to restart computer once again and showing new Metro app shortcut on my taskbar.

    Big shame to Microsoft!

Did not work for me :s

I have successfully installed update 1 on three systems with media center, one x32, and two x64, all Dells (two older Dells - one with the x32 edition, the other with x64, one new Dell with x64, all of which I installed from media, not from the express installer, and then updated to media center).

The two x64 systems were updated to Update 1 yesterday; one was freshly upgraded to Windows 8.1 immediately prior to update 1 (and reinstalled with media center after the upgrade from media), the other had been installed fresh with Windows 8.1 some months ago.  In both cases, I had to install Update 1 from Windows Update because the first system reported one or more of my offline install files were corrupt.

I first installed only the "Updates for Windows" until I obtained access to the servicing stack update (KB2919442), installed that, and then installed Update 1.  Note that the servicing stack update is NOT included in the update 1 download, and must be installed separately and as a prerequisite to update 1, based on what I have read, and experienced (Update 1 was only offered AFTER installing KB2919442 in all cases).

Perhaps one of the actions will help people here - in particular, ensure KB2919442 is installed BEFORE installing Update 1.

    Hello!

This worked for me. I have been facing the same as other users are but it worked.

I had downloaded the update KB2919355 manually and then tried to install it but it failed.

Then i tried the steps mention in your post and it worked.

    How it worked -

You have to follow all the steps in order -

Try installing the download manually. It will fail. Then  -

    1. Open admin command prompt. (This is how: you can go to search charm, type "cmd" then right click on the Command Prompt and select Run as administrator)
    2. Type following command and press enter:

    DISM /online /get-packages /format:table | findstr KB2919355

    1.  After pressing enter nothing happens then immediately enter the following command

    DISM /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. Run following command:

    DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    1. Run following command:

    DISM /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

    1. Now install KB2919355 and restart after install.

Past seven days have been very problematic but finally it's over.

    A clear solution.
