KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

sfc /scannow

DISM /online /get-packages /format:table | findstr KB2919355

DISM /online /remove-dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

DISM /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase

cleanmgr.exe

@echo off

Echo Cleanup complete

pause

I am having problems installing KB2919355 on one of my Windows 8.1 x64 pc's.  I have run SFC Scannow and DISM and no corruption found.  There is no malware - per MBAM, HitmanPro, and MRT.  I can install Windows Defender updates and all the other Windows Updates today,  Pc has no fragmentation. and all Windows Updates have been installed EXCEPT KB2919355.  I System Restored pc to just before the point when Windows Updates were installed today and tried again, but that didn't help either. I also tried Clean Boot with no success.

KB2919355 goes through the download and installation procedure, until it get to 99% install and then shows "We couldn't complete the updates Undoing Changes Do not turn off your computer".  It then reverses the update and restarts - about a 30 minute task.     Windows Event Viewer shows Error 0x800F0922.

If anyone has suggestions for a solution, please post it.  Appreciate any help you can provide.  At this point, after 3 tries, I am exhausted and out of ideas.

I have had same problem. Check free space in your "System reserved partition". In my case was only 3MB free from 350MB and this wasn't enough for KB2919355 installation. If you have same problem, see my posts in other thread regarding 0x800f0922 error: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_update/windows-update-kb2919355-fails-to-install-error/aec97e6d-6b14-4bc6-a681-b418d8c13376?page=2

I have not received Kb2919355 via windows update. I did receive it on all my other computers.

I was not replying to a post of yours. That being said...

KB2919355 is being slowly rolled-out to Win8.1 computers worldwide. A given computer might not be offered KB2919355 until (much) later this month.

There are a myriad of reasons why you couldn't install KB2919355 manually & got a "does not apply to your system" error. To avoid even more confusion, you can begin your own, new thread if you need assistance.

TIP: Chances are there won't be a "One size fits all" fix for these problems.

    <EDIT>

Finally, a fix for Error 80073712 from Windows 8.1 Update (KB2919355)!

I ment no disrespect... If you think I did I appologize!

If you look through the threads (this and others) the problem is however this is executed for many of us the 355 still won´t install. Neither before or after a "rollback" before 8th of april or before trying to attempt the Windows Update. It´s kind of the common nominator for everyone who´s just stuck.

I even made a clean install this week. I Removed all partitions on my HD, made a totally new install from my OEM-discs, provided by Packard Bell. Ran trough Windows Update to install all present updates, went to Store and upgraded to 8.1. Then again Windows Update to install remaining updates... and I got stuck on our beloved 355.

I have several friends who didn´t even notice anything before the system asked for a reboot... and then the Spring Update was there... flawless! I have a neighbour that managed the update after the DISM-repair-method... success! But I can´t...

If I had a proper licence key and a 8.1 ISO I would repair it that way... But I dont... and the key I extracted from my OEM-installation doesn´t work to install from a 8 ISO or 8.1 ISO.

Personally I have a "date" with a MS Tech on monday evening. But I really don´t think I´ll get lycky. Not after having restored my system and still with the same problem.

    Mi MangeK,

    No problem at all :-)

I do agree that this issue is a major one, and too many users are experiencing that.

I've read all the threads, both of this conversation and also of this similar one

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_update/windows-81-update-1-failing-to-install-with-errors/c3071122-e903-4775-b659-e98784bc786c?page=23&msgId=721adb0a-44a4-4317-baf9-37381bc6474d

Only a few minutes ago, on that other thread, one usere succeeded, just as an example:

<Start Quote>Finally after running the 2 cmd's w/admin privileges, dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14 then the dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup, checked my registry and cleaned any bad entries w/ccleaner the update went in from windows update. I am running win8/64 that was updated to 8.1 on an Acer Aspire/v5 lapper.<End of Quote>

I don't have an ISO either, and I had already discussed with MS Italian Tech, and what they proposed to me was exactly what you did: Roll back to Win 8, then install Win 8.1 and then install Win 8.1 Update. The problem is that I would have needed at least another two full working days to install all my programs etc., so that was not an option for me.

I am very sorry you went through all that and it did not solve the issue for you!

I sincerely hope your MS Tech "date" will be able to solve your current issues!

    Finally...

    cmd with admin privileges:

    • dism /online /remove-package

    /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14

    • dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
    • shutdown /r /t 0

After restart install manually the update from MS site:

    Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu

It worked for me, thanks to all those who have posted a solution here.

    grazie mille Marco ;)

    Ciao Claudio, prego :-)

It's great this worked for you, too!

Okay, so the above worked for me as well and it is impairative that the manual download be used and applied for this to work. After all this was done and the package installed I made sure that I was not showing this update again through windows update. I in fact was still showing the update so I removed all temporary files associated with any previous update attempts, rebooted and then checked again and I show no further updates needed.

I want to also thank everyone for putting in such time and effort for this solution to come to fruition. I had several attempts at trying different fixes and none seemed to work until I tried these last ones. From following the posts from the begining I ended up running all the commands except,

    "dism /online /remove-package

    /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14"

    "dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup"

And had no success until I ran the two above commands then everything worked out to my great suprise. Now I never recieved any error messages about installation failures when I ran into trouble... my laptop just simply hung at 10% after the initial reboot when the package was installed and continued to reboot after several hours always hanging on 10%. There was no way I was going to clean install since others tried to no avail so like a previous poster said he would do was eat popcorn and wait. I did the same minus the popcorn. Patience is what is needed when dealing with any microsoft product I have learned. And it is not typically microsoft that comes up with the solutions needed. Thank you community!

    Best regards,

    Xavier
