I just received the lumia 930 a few days ago. Perfect device however every time I want to make a call the screen goes black. I had a lumia 920 without this problem. Is there a solution? (without blowing the dust, restoring to factory settings or bringing the device back to the store?). This is such a devastating problem as it is almost impossible to just answer the phone. A have no protective cover etc.

Final Update.
The shop replaced my Nokia 930 with a new one.
In the shop we found out that the screen in the sensor area was wobbly. LIkely that this was the defect that triggered the proximity sensor.
So, if you have issues with proximity sensor, there is one option only... go to service.
... And another one here as well ... . No cover, no dirt, so a proximity sensor problem. Both soft and hard reset did not help (a soft reset caused OneDrive to malfunction, so I was forced into a factory reset anyhow, luckily my settings were synced beforehand). In 90% of ordinary telephone use the screen turns black, slight pressure or stronger wiping in the prx sensor area is needed to get the screen interface back while calling. In 10% of the cases it starts to function normally, but then only for a short while. Otherwise the device does work very well so I am hesitant to return right now (particularly since I am not certain about what I will get returned), but this problem simply should not happen, certainly not in case of a flagship model, since it seriously hampers the phone functionality.
This seems one serious problem, particularly since it has plagued many Lumia types. Lets hope somebody at Microsoft picks up and takes it seriously.

I had mine repaired and it came back good as new and is working perfectly.....

I was having a similar issue with my phone, but then I was using a case that snaps over the back of the phone (it doesn't go over any of the sensors...
I was a little annoyed because I've also stood in the middle of a supermarket trying to end a call and not being able to, only getting a glimpse of the keypad screen when I press the lock button.. I've tried to call my mum a couple times and ended up leaving a frustrated voicemail of me trying to end the call :-/ and I've even had to switch my phone off just to end a call..
However after removing the case, it works perfectly fine again....
I have no doubt it's likely the case that caused the problem, but I don't want my phone to get scratched to hell just so I can end calls when I need to...

Proximity sensor is a joke ... I have the 930 and it's the only flaw which is making me think of trading the thing in. Nokia have really slipped up in their testing process during the production of the device and sounds like it's not limited to the 930. It's a schoolboy error as people will leave the 'Nokia/Microsoft experience' just because of a compenent positioning or quality issue which could have been ironed out. (Or maybe they knew about it after post-manufacture testing but did not have the money to go back and get it right)!!
Aside from the sensor, device is great and probably best in market for business use (until they capture consumer interest with decent application world).
Now Nokia's name not on the future devices, Microsoft best make sure it gets sorted and don't settle for incompetence/complacency as people will leave devices and they won;t have a clue why!
