I just received the lumia 930 a few days ago. Perfect device however every time I want to make a call the screen goes black. I had a lumia 920 without this problem. Is there a solution? (without blowing the dust, restoring to factory settings or bringing the device back to the store?). This is such a devastating problem as it is almost impossible to just answer the phone. A have no protective cover etc.

Final Update.
The shop replaced my Nokia 930 with a new one.
In the shop we found out that the screen in the sensor area was wobbly. LIkely that this was the defect that triggered the proximity sensor.
So, if you have issues with proximity sensor, there is one option only... go to service.
I have. the same problem I press top right corner of the phone. Clean with my tshirtff ed . I have also turned on dual press wakeup. I turned off phone few time and it started working.

I too have a Lumia 930 which I love to bits. I have had it a year now, however recently it has been turning the screen off as soon as I dial a number and I have to press the on button several times to get the screen to wake up so I can switch it to speaker or enter selection numbers etc. REALLY irritating!
It so happens that for Christmas my wife gave me a little cleaning gadget with a brush on one end and a silicon rubber "poker" on the other. This was perfect for cleaning the sensor area of the phone and the hole where the ear-piece is. I then rubbed thoroughly with a microfiber cloth. This will have squeezed the screen somewhat which may have been the fix, but in any case for the moment my 930 is now working perfectly again.
So once again, thanks for all the input which has identified the problem for me too.

I've got the same problem. Pressing down the top right of the screen seems to fix it, but I'll probably still return the phone because this is clearly a manufacturing defect. Quite disappointing after reading about how good the build quality of the Lumia 930 was.
