Original Title: Windows 8.1 Update 1 Failing to Install

I've been trying to get the Windows 8.1 Update 1 to install for a couple hours now.  I installed a series of files using windows update earlier in the day.  Later I tried installing the update file (KB2919355) that popped up in the Windows Update window.  The downloading process look over 45 minutes for a 800 MB file even thought I have an internet connection over 20 MB/s.  After that it spent 20 minutes installing the update until it failed giving an error code of 80070020.  From that I restarted the computer to see if I could try another stab at it, nothing changed or improved.

Now I looked in the Windows update history to see if the other required updates like KB2919442,**** KB2932046, KB2937592 and KB2938439 were installed and they aren't in the update history.  I thought they were installed already for KB2919355 to be installed.  Are all of these update files included in the KF2919355 update that pops up in the windows update?

Also, my update history can is only up to date in the control panel and doesn't show any updates installed in the modern PC settings app.  Did windows update fail to properly install updates required before trying to install later updates? What can and can't I install right now?

So far I've manually downloaded the links to  KB2919355, KB2919442, **** KB2932046, KB2937592 and KB2938439 posted in this thread:

I haven't installed anything yet.

Any help on why nothing has worked or installed properly?

And that's why I am asking people to open cases to make sure Microsoft truly sees this pain.  I have 20 shares of Microsoft in my 401k.  I keep it so I can say to Microsoft I'm a shareholder listen to me.  I'm certainly not making millions from the stock.  Seriously MW I am on your side.  I am just saying that it's a reality that not everyone is having issues with this update.

Susan, I think you are a great moderator for what it's worth and I know you've done your best to help us and that you are on our side.  You do a great job of listening to us vent.  I really have only respect for you.  That being said I know there are people that have had success with this update but it's very frustrating for those of us who do not have any answers after almost a month of attempts.  With each failure I become more and more upset and I am certain I am not the only one.  The reality of this is some of the other MS updates that have caused issues in the past never affected me...I never had any issues with updates in 11 years of running MS OSes.  It just makes me angry that I and also many folks on this forum are having issues and that MS won't even dignify us by addressing them publicly and apologizing to us which they have done in the past.  That is not right.

I sympathize with your problem. So, other than complain, what do you suggest we do?

I am going to wait a bit and be patient.  Maybe something is coming down the road to fix this issue.  It might be Windows 8.2 or 9, or maybe not.  If there new solutions do not work, then it is time to move or I will just use my Kindle, which works just fine.  Might not be able to use Quicken or Xcel, so I go to manual.

Probably a good move John. One of the problems with failed updates and similar things is people flock to the community forums and are deluged with a ton of "generic" fixes, suggestions and solutions which may or may not solve the problem. The generic solutions may work for some but for many others they don't work. People become more and more frustrated after trying the generic solutions (because they assume the poster has THE answer especially if the poster has some sort of title after his or her name) when the real solution for the particular problem may well have to come from Microsoft. If I had a nickel for every helpful soul who proposed "the solution", most of which have already been posted numerous times on numerous threads, I would be a wealthy man.

I also agree however I know in my personal experience that I have gotten so frustrated with this issue that I keep attempting each fix hoping it will work for me.  MS has not even publicly acknowledged these issues and that lends fuel to the fire.  They are already losing money on the Surface tablets so you would think they'd care about the experiences long time customers are having but it really seems that they don't.
