Original Title: Windows 8.1 Update 1 Failing to Install

I've been trying to get the Windows 8.1 Update 1 to install for a couple hours now.  I installed a series of files using windows update earlier in the day.  Later I tried installing the update file (KB2919355) that popped up in the Windows Update window.  The downloading process look over 45 minutes for a 800 MB file even thought I have an internet connection over 20 MB/s.  After that it spent 20 minutes installing the update until it failed giving an error code of 80070020.  From that I restarted the computer to see if I could try another stab at it, nothing changed or improved.

Now I looked in the Windows update history to see if the other required updates like KB2919442,**** KB2932046, KB2937592 and KB2938439 were installed and they aren't in the update history.  I thought they were installed already for KB2919355 to be installed.  Are all of these update files included in the KF2919355 update that pops up in the windows update?

Also, my update history can is only up to date in the control panel and doesn't show any updates installed in the modern PC settings app.  Did windows update fail to properly install updates required before trying to install later updates? What can and can't I install right now?

So far I've manually downloaded the links to  KB2919355, KB2919442, **** KB2932046, KB2937592 and KB2938439 posted in this thread:

I haven't installed anything yet.

Any help on why nothing has worked or installed properly?

I have seen a couple people mention disabling anti-virus software resulted in success.  I did clean install of 8.1 WITH UPDATE 1 in place keeping my programs and settings.  Afterwards both of my PCs had issues with AVG.  One box Windows doesn't think I have Anti-virus installed - the other box I had to uninstall AVG and re-install AVG to get it to even work right. So if some of you are still struggling with the update - possibly uninstall your anti-virus software and see what happens.  ---correction ---> I had to download AVG FREE from Cnet and do a repair to get AVG running on both PCs correctly.

I think everyone on this forum should get a free upgrade to Windows 9.  LOL

I agree with your last sentence although I know it was said "tongue in cheek."  I tried another update which didn't get past the first phase and had an error in the event log with "corruption of component store" so I ran the PC troubleshooter which stated it had fixed that and had done all the other dism stuff.  I fell asleep and this morning it stated the installation was complete and to restart my computer.  I still wasn't confident it had actually installed because the first 10 times or so it has gotten that far and then nothing...so same thing this morning..."couldn't complete the updates...rolling back."  Now I will have to clean up the failed update mess again but now I have another problem...my internet keeps losing connectivity or I am having problems where I can't click on links on a page until I reload the page...it's not my isp because no one else in my family is having issues.  I've only had this brand new computer since last November.  I have noticed that other people have had internet issues after installing this update.  I am so upset right now.  This is all MS' fault.

So the learning message from all this is that a) like any major international company, microsoft don't care, as long as it's nearly right for most people some of the time they are happy and that b) even those of that think we've achieved success , may not have - who knows what will happen with the next update? and c) turning off antivirus should not be needed - after all THEY want us to install updates automatically so we can't turn off anti virus.....or is this all about a little war between microsoft and some antivirus makers.....conspiracy theories here we go!

    Failed,

    Shut off anti-virus

Ran first DISM six times, failed each time.

    Stopped trying

My Disms were successful and I shut off my A/V...still unsuccessful.
