How to disable top bar for closing apps in windows 8.1 update 1?

There is no top bar.

There is a left bar a right bar but I don't see any top bar on windows 8.1.

Open an APP & shove the mouse right up to the top edge of the screen & the bar will show.  It won't show if you don't make it show.  Well, it shows momentarily then disappears til you bang the top edge.  You do not have to use it... there are lots of other ways to close an APP.

Actually, I've watched & written in several Tech Forums since Win8 Beta & before.  There has been praise & excitement.  And, also, a lot of whining.  It basically comes down to no matter what is attempted, brought or given to people, can never please all, all the time.  Some can never be satisfied, give them this, they want that. I am entitled to my feelings & observations but, big fusses over every little thing.  OR seeing good stuff as bad, what help is that.

Just ignore the silly bar.  And the minimise goes w/ NOW being able to Pin Store APPs to Taskbar.

  Never mind the bar... do you know if you have a Store APP open & want to go back to Desktop, just bang the mouse @ the Top-Left Corner, don't have to bother w/ that bar.

Sorry, for venting or speaking freely.  But, I'm faced w/ the same OS as y'all.  But, 8.1.1 DID give ppl what they were screaming to have.

Move mouse to the up and just drag it down, that easy it is to close apps in windows 8. You can even do it with eyes closed. More that a BUTTON, it is merely like a gesture. You're just complaining! Unless HP shipped a totally crappy mouse, which I believe they are totally capable of using a mouse on windows 8 is very easy. May be try a different mouse if this one is slow or sluggish. Have a fast responsive mouse and closing apps will merely be like gesture.

I just unboxed an HP all in one, windows 8.1 and the title bar is disabled whether I use the mouse or the touch screen...  As this computer is for the over 55's crowd, they'd prefer it look and feel like their previous windows 7 all in one... Yah some people that have the title bar don't want it but in my case, the users of this computer want it and don't have it...  Maybe it will magically appear if I disable the touch screen which I foresee as a smeared up nightmare anyhow... and to me, at least, reaching across the desk to manipulate a 21" touch screen is going to give the residence calloused finger tips and aggravate their aging joints.   Dragging an app to the bottom of the screen is also a lot more mousing than pushing a button...

I completely agree with OP. The top bar is completely superfluous, because you always can drag the app to the bottom in order to close it.

Same here, I prefer the new Modern UI RemoteDesktop over the tradition one, but the new title bar is causing me a quite a few disconnects.

Need a way to disable it, if not globally, at least on an app by app basis.

And, if MS didn't want using Modern UI apps with a mouse, they wouldn't have made a Modern UI start screen and they would have made a traditional desktop version of Xbox Music & Video.
