How to disable top bar for closing apps in windows 8.1 update 1?

Thank you Drew. I appreciate your response and yes I do know that with this recent update, a consumer can pin metro apps to the task bar. Okay good but there is one thing that draws me away from that. When in the task bar, the tiles (Icons now I guess) are not live. That is the entire reason why I started using Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 were the live tiles because if anyone on this threat is like me, you need a calendar to remember when to check your calendar. In other words, use to, I could never remember to check it and I would miss several appointments. Thanks to the (live) tiles. This is no longer an issue. I just unlock any of my devices, sign in and just like that, see my upcoming appointment right in my face. So I am then prompted to look at it. This is just me. I also heard someone complain that while live tiles are nice, they do not want information constantly in their face. Well here is a tip. Just right click a tile and hit "Turn live tile off" Isn't that easy enough?

Yes, Cameron, this is the debate (to be nice about it) that has been going on for 2 yrs or more.  Some people like & appreciate the Tiles & see useful value in them  whilst, others don't, @ all.  Same as some like the Start screen approach to things & others don't.

And, absolutely, some complain about things, in spite of the fact that they are easily customizable & optional.  Heck, I have left a few Tiles on Start, even though I don't, really, use it or look @ it for anything.

As for the Calendar & things on the desktop, I do very much see your point or interest.  I keep the Calendar Pinned to the Taskbar and I set up Reminders for things such that I don't need to think to check it.  Plus I don't allow desktop icons & shortcuts to be displayed... instead, I enabled & use the Desktop Toolbar.

But, the fun is far from over as there are more changes on the horizon.  We'll have to see what number of people like things this time or not.

I have solved the problem with this bar if you right-click the bar when it pops up it will go away its very useful! Now it won't annoy you as much!

I'll draw a comparison to setting the Taskbar to Auto-hide...

You, actually, can, but, do not need to Rt Clk the (APP) Exit Bar.  If you just touch it & back off it disappears... until you touch the mouse/cursor to the Top Edge, again, which causes it to reappear... pretty much like a Taskbar on Auto-hide.  You have raised a good point, though; it other words, it's only 'there' if & when you ask for it, want or need it.  Poke it & back off & it's gone, until you poke @ the Top Edge, again to use it.

1st, in regard to or response the last entry in the thread which mentions Chrome.  A bit baffled why a browser & the APPS Exit Bar (Exit Bar is its 'proper' name, btw) would be mentioned together.  It exists only w/ APPs not, browsers.

Anyway, I have to add or modity what I had written above:

If you open an APP to full screen, initially, there's the wee bar.  (w/out touching it in any way) If you sit still on the APP just for a brief moment, said bar disappears up into the Top Edge.  Then as I wrote, (now) once you poke  at the Top Edge the wee bar shows out, again (to use or not)

As I wrote, just 'banging' (my term ;)) in the Top Left Corner will put the APP away & show the Desktop, again.

This all said, I must admit it's a challenge to grasp the "annoyance & need or want to remove or defeat".  It's tough to see the issue it causes or what harm it is.  No worries, just trying to help, if possible.

Oh, I meant to repeat for Cameron (& others), he asked about Pinning,

"What I really wish that Microsoft would introduce the ability to pin live tiles to the desktop. That would be nice."

IF one Rt Clks on a Live Tile there is Pin to Taskbar.  That pretty much does it since (now) those APPS can be Pinned to the Taskbar to which, there is access, just as much as if that item was on the Desktop (as an icon or shortcut).  Plus, bonus now, the Taskbar is not only just on Desktop but, on Start & (All) Applications screens, as well.

Oh ok i see mine doesn't do that i discovered this when i was in chrome i can only Rt Clk the bar
