That bar is so annoying and ugly, especially when I'm using chrome in windows 8 mode... chaging apps is a odyssey

I have solved the problem with this bar if you right-click the bar when it pops up it will go away its very useful! Now it won't annoy you as much!

I'll draw a comparison to setting the Taskbar to Auto-hide...

You, actually, can, but, do not need to Rt Clk the (APP) Exit Bar.  If you just touch it & back off it disappears... until you touch the mouse/cursor to the Top Edge, again, which causes it to reappear... pretty much like a Taskbar on Auto-hide.  You have raised a good point, though; it other words, it's only 'there' if & when you ask for it, want or need it.  Poke it & back off & it's gone, until you poke @ the Top Edge, again to use it.

    Cheers,

    Drew

I like Windows 8.1, but please make the aap closing bar optional in futer releases. It's just one checkbox extra in the taskbars properties...

    Dennis,

Maybe, that will be the case in the future.  I do agree, between the 'Switcher Bar' & (now) Pinning Stores APPs to the Taskbar, it, the 'Exit Bar' is not needed.

Plus, as I'd mentioned earlier, w/ an APP open just 'banging' the mouse @ the top-left corner goes back to Desktop... so even though its existence does not bother me, personally, I don't bother using the wee 'Exit Bar'.

    Cheers,

    Drew
