Hi,

This issue may occur if specific Windows Updates are not installed in the proper order. Microsoft has made a change to prevent further customers from getting into this state.  Customers must now have a pre-requisite update (KB 2883200) installed before being offered these updates.

To restore wireless connectivity:

1.     Uninstall all of the following updates:

·         KB 2887595 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: November 2013

·         KB 2903939 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: December 2013

To uninstall an update, go to the Control Panel and select Programs.  Then, under Programs and Features, select View installed updates.  Select the updates listed above and click Uninstall.  If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2.     Install the updates listed below.  When you run Windows Update, the updates will now automatically be installed in the proper order.  You must restart the computer after you apply each update.

·        Install KB 2883200

·        Install KB 2887595 and KB 2903939.

I am sorry that you feel what I have done is nonsense, I am only trying get my Dell WIFI working and to be helpful with something you and I shouldn't have to deal with. If you read back through the posts you will see that I have done the reset and reinstall a couple of times step by step as the "FIX" had said to do without success. I am happy with the way my Dell works now. Last night I had lost WIFI again and had to restart it and WIFI came right back; something to do with leaving it on in sleep mode or whatever too long. Hopefully Dell and Microsoft will come up with a solution for this ongoing problem.

    Good luck to you mkxy.

Despite mkxy's rather gruff responses, I am starting to think he's right.  While removing the updates may have helped my connection stability in general, I am still getting no or very limited internet connectivity if I am not in the room or adjacent room to my router.  If I am on my second floor, I still have a relatively strong wireless connection (2-3 bars), but the internet connectivity is SLOW or non-existent.  I know its not my router since all my other devices have strong connection and internet connectivity on my second floor.

The reason I think he is right about the n-wireless is because while my home router is -n, the wireless at my work is -g and I get good internet connectivity even when the signal is weak (1-2 bars).  I am going to test this further by hooking up a second -g router on my home network next to my -n router and see if the internet connectivity is different depending on which I connect it to.

Funny that this issue did not pop up until after 5 days of using the device, and 4 days after the 3 infamous updates were installed.  I do think these updates cause wifi issues, but I think those issues are different that the ones a lot of us are experiencing.  I sounds to me like a hardware and driver issue.  I did also update the newest Dell wireless driver, but that was no help, and if they didn't already fix it, I don't think they will (or maybe can't)   I am also going to refresh my DV8P back to the original windows installation and see if it starts working again, and if so, see if I can replicate the failure.

If it does, I am going to return this unit to the Microsoft store where I bought it.  I ordered the Lenovo Miix 2 from Best Buy on a limited sale for $199 just in case, and while I like several things more about the Dell (feel, look, sound), not having a reliable wifi is a deal killer for me. I am hoping this issue is a Dell issue and not a Windows 8.1 issue, but I have yet to read of similar problems with the Lenovo.

I am using a Linksys wireless g router, so I wouldn't know about the -n. I get a good signal with the 802.11g on the Dell.

As I said before, I have spent a lot of time trying this and that fix and found this is the best solution in my case; others may have different problems.

Forums are for distributing information with the hopes of coming up with a fix.

    Thanks

By the way that's a mighty good price for that Lenovo Miix 2!
