Dell Venue Pro loses wireless connection after installing Windows Updates

I only spent a day on this and my conclusion is this is not a consumer product, more of an enthusiast experiment.

I got an RMA from the Microsoft store until it dawned on me - this is a Dell computer not a Windows Tablet like a Surface.

You do the normal thing - go to Dell start installing the updates until they are all done.

This month's foobar with Windows 8.1 updates escaped me until now since it didn't affect computer users.

Again, an early stage product best suited to dedicated enthusiasts. They say the lines are long returning these things but I'll hang in there just for the ride.

UPDATE: for some reason after I had it all running just fine for a couple of days after performing the above "answer," I turned my Venue Pro on last night and to my surprise the WIFI was not functioning again. I decided to just uninstall  KB 2887595and**** KB 2903939.I then did a restart and the WIFI had returned. I then did a Windows update and hid both  KB 2887595and KB 2903939and then set the Windows update from automatic to notify me and let me choose what I want to update; just don't trust it anymore :P

I've been using MS since MS-DOS 2.1 and I am really starting to worry about MS ability to correct their errors and leave it up to the consumer (some mostly newbies) to figure it out for themselves. The Dell Venue Pro 8 is a mighty fine little tablet....

This issue may occur if specific Windows Updates are not installed in the proper order. Microsoft has made a change to prevent further customers from getting into this state.  Customers must now have a pre-requisite update (KB 2883200) installed before being offered these updates.   

 

To restore wireless connectivity:

 

1.     Uninstall all of the following updates:

·         KB 2887595 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: November 2013

·         KB 2903939 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: December 2013

 

To uninstall an update, go to the Control Panel and select Programs.  Then, under Programs and Features, select View installed updates.  Select the updates listed above and click Uninstall.  If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

 

2.     Install the updates listed below.  When you run Windows Update, the updates will now automatically be installed in the proper order.  You must restart the computer after you apply each update.

·        Install KB 2883200. 

·        Install KB 2887595 and KB 2903939. 

This sequence update did not fix the issue. Leave the Dell Venue 8 pro in sleep mode for more than 10 mins and the same "Limited" connectivity issue. Please resolve this annoying issue.

After losing my WIFI and having to do a refresh the system several times before I read this post and others. 

My last refresh was today and I went to do a windows update and hide  KB 2887595and**** KB 2903939 but they were not listed anymore, so I did the update, restarted and did a windows update again and there was KB 2883200 which I updated. Then I did another windows update to see what was there, and guess what: KB 2887595and**** KB 2903939were both there, so I updated them to see if I lose my WIFI or worse :)

Well I guess that Microsoft update has it all fixed and in the right order now and all is well.

But this did take a lot of my time and also I can see hords of folks taking their Dell Tablets back to stores because of this error and many calls to Dell's techs...
