Dell Venue Pro loses wireless connection after installing Windows Updates

The Dell Venue 8 Pro and Dell Venue 11 Pro lost all wireless connectivity after installing either Windows Update**KB 2887595** or**KB 2903939**.

How can I get my WiFi back?

Hi,

This issue may occur if specific Windows Updates are not installed in the proper order. Microsoft has made a change to prevent further customers from getting into this state.  Customers must now have a pre-requisite update (KB 2883200) installed before being offered these updates. 

To restore wireless connectivity:

1.     Uninstall all of the following updates:

·         KB 2887595 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: November 2013

·         KB 2903939 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: December 2013

To uninstall an update, go to the Control Panel and select Programs.  Then, under Programs and Features, select View installed updates.  Select the updates listed above and click Uninstall.  If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2.     Install the updates listed below.  When you run Windows Update, the updates will now automatically be installed in the proper order.  You must restart the computer after you apply each update.

·        Install KB 2883200. 

·        Install KB 2887595 and KB 2903939.

    I have the same problem with my Dell Venue 8 Pro, BUT, I have none of the MS updates you suggest uninstalling.

    So mine must be really busted !!

    Pity, it did work for about 20 hours.

    No they dont do different things, and shutdown is something complete different than Hibernate or Sleep... And saying "do a shutdown and it fixes it" is complete nonsense, of course it will fix it for a short time o0 because it will reconnect/load drivers new. It's same as deactivating wifi card and activating it again (no, not over the wifi slider in metro ui, but in the wifi adapters list). Like I said, the dell drivers are b***s***, like the Intel drivers were some time ago (google intel 6235 connectivity issues). If your router really just has b/g (54mb/s), than still it can be the reason and you should get yourself a new one running OpenWRT for example.

    Also: bluetooth doesnt work correctly if you use 2,4ghz with the Venue. My bluetooth mouse lags and becomes instable. If you switch to 5ghzt it is working.

    Thanks for the reply and I agree with you that it shouldn't make any difference how you issue the shutdown command (to clarify, I was doing a complete shutdown not just sleep or hibernate.) which is why I was interested in whether other people could replicate the behavior. As I said it appears to be just a workaround and not a fix.

    Thanks for the heads up about the N wireless setting but, in my case, I only have a G class router so it doesn't apply in my situation.

    The only thing that leads me to suspect that the different shutdown buttons do different things (crazy I know) is that the perfect predictability of the two shutdown methods. I know what will happen to the wifi depending on how I shutdown. 

    I remember there used to be an issue with the original Surface RT when shutting down. The system would be in Mute when powered back on. A patch fixed that. This has the same feel...but let's see if it happens for anybody else.
