Hi,

This issue may occur if specific Windows Updates are not installed in the proper order. Microsoft has made a change to prevent further customers from getting into this state.  Customers must now have a pre-requisite update (KB 2883200) installed before being offered these updates.

To restore wireless connectivity:

1.     Uninstall all of the following updates:

·         KB 2887595 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: November 2013

·         KB 2903939 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: December 2013

To uninstall an update, go to the Control Panel and select Programs.  Then, under Programs and Features, select View installed updates.  Select the updates listed above and click Uninstall.  If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2.     Install the updates listed below.  When you run Windows Update, the updates will now automatically be installed in the proper order.  You must restart the computer after you apply each update.

·        Install KB 2883200

·        Install KB 2887595 and KB 2903939.

    Hey,

I followed your guide as close as I could but there are no options for Athernos Connection Settings or anything at all besides Roaming Aggressiveness in the locations you described. I'm on the A09 bios with all of the latest updates.

I think I have the answer that everyone is looking for!

After reading and trying all of the forum post suggestions, I was still having the same intermittent problems that everyone with a Dell Venue 8 Pro was experiencing.  My WiFi would switch to limited connection (No Internet) and my Bluetooth mouse and Bluetooth keyboard would stop working.

I found that none of the suggestions improved the problem.  I have installed and uninstalled the Microsoft updates that were mentioned. I have reset back to factory, and tried all the different settings, including disabling the N on my router and only using b/g.  That helped the most, but I felt like I wasn’t getting to use the improved speed of my N router.

I could always get everything to work without rebooting my tablet...  I just had to go into device manager and click on the network adapter and disable then enable the drivers and i was good to go until it messed up again (sometimes it was minutes, and sometimes it was a day or two, but it was always random seeming and worst when I was using the internet and my microsoft sculpt bluetooth mouse and fintie bluetooth keyboard.)

The following is a list of steps I took that seems to have fixed my problems, and I still have N speeds through my WiFi now.  We have four Dell Venue 8 pros in my household, and they were all having the same problems as listed above.  All four tablets were in different states of update, and some had been reset to factory and others hadn’t.  Some had the power management settings in device manager set so that they couldn’t be turned off to save power (I think this is still a good idea). All of the had previously been update on the dell website with the latest wifi drivers and bios A09 (as of 1-5-2015).  This is a MUST!

Then Just follow the following steps and your intermittent wifi and Bluetooth problems should be a thing of the past!

    Open control panel

Click on Network and Sharing Center

    Click on Change Adapter Settings

Double Click on your WiFi adapter

Click on the Button that says Wireless Properties

Click to enable the check box “Enable Atheros Connections Settings”

    Click on the Configure button

Make sure both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz boxes are checked

Click to disable the check box “Enable Radio Measurement”

Click to disable the check box “Enable Advanced Roaming Setting”

    Click OK

    Click OK again

    Click on Properties Button

    Click on Configure Button

    Click on the Advanced Tab

    Click on Roaming Aggressiveness

Set the value to 1. Lowest

    Click OK

    Click on Close

    Close Network Connections

    Close Network and Sharing Center

Restart your tablet and you should be good to go!

I am so excited that this seems to have fixed my problems, it has been several days (with heavy use) and everything seems to be going OKAY…  This tablet is awesome, except for this one (PAST – I hope!) problem.  Please come back and let everyone know whether this worked for you or not, because then we can all know!

Also, let us know how you are using your tablet:

Do you use Bluetooth for a mouse (what brand)?

Do you use a Bluetooth keyboard (what brand)?

What other Bluetooth devices do you have connected?

Are you using the Dell Active Stylus?

This happens on my Acer Aspire-E1-522 as well. Not sure which update exactly causes the problem.  Seems to be an issue with Windows itself, or maybe a wireless adapter vendor shared amongst all of these computer manufacturers.

Problem ("Windows updates breaking Wifi adapter") has been in existence since 2012.
