Hi,

This issue may occur if specific Windows Updates are not installed in the proper order. Microsoft has made a change to prevent further customers from getting into this state.  Customers must now have a pre-requisite update (KB 2883200) installed before being offered these updates.

To restore wireless connectivity:

1.     Uninstall all of the following updates:

·         KB 2887595 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: November 2013

·         KB 2903939 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: December 2013

To uninstall an update, go to the Control Panel and select Programs.  Then, under Programs and Features, select View installed updates.  Select the updates listed above and click Uninstall.  If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2.     Install the updates listed below.  When you run Windows Update, the updates will now automatically be installed in the proper order.  You must restart the computer after you apply each update.

·        Install KB 2883200

·        Install KB 2887595 and KB 2903939.

Thanks for the reply, I've run the command prompt as admin but it's not resetting the IP stack as it's not completing the steps as it's claiming access denied for some reason although I doubt it will make any difference as the issue seems to be specifically with the wireless system.

I've updated the bios to A05 and reinstalled a fresh copy of the wireless driver but no change, need to see if Atheros have a newer driver than the one Dell offer and perhaps uninstall the rest of the updates that were applied yesterday to try and find if another one is causing problems.

    Hello John,

    Thank you for the reply.

I would suggest you to try resetting TCP/IP and check if it helps.

    a. Press Windows + X keys and select command prompt(admin).

    b. In the command prompt window, type the following command and then press Enter

    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Note: If you do not want to specify a directory path for the log file, use the following command:

    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

    c. Restart the computer.

You may also try update BIOS and check the issue.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you

I've also hit this problem as well - I bought the Venue 8 Pro last week and its wireless has been flawless on each network I've used but after I left it installing updates the wireless card showed as disabled and wouldn't enable.  So I uninstalled the two updates recommended in this thread but while the wireless card now shows as enabled, it always has a limited connection.

I've tried the recommendations in this thread but most of them seem to be when the connection works then fails at some point whereas I cannot get mine working at all.  I've worked through the suggestions with the different startup options and uninstalling/reinstalling the card but it's made no difference.  The next steps seem to be to update the bios (it's currently A04) and try a new wireless driver if there is one, it's tempting to just restore it back to factory settings as I've wasted enough time on this already but this could well happen again and I'd be back in the same position.

What exactly is it about these updates that are causing the problem?  The recommended answer claims it's simply the order they're installed in and that's been fixed now but that's clearly not the case given this is still happening many months later.
