Hi,

This issue may occur if specific Windows Updates are not installed in the proper order. Microsoft has made a change to prevent further customers from getting into this state.  Customers must now have a pre-requisite update (KB 2883200) installed before being offered these updates.

To restore wireless connectivity:

1.     Uninstall all of the following updates:

·         KB 2887595 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: November 2013

·         KB 2903939 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: December 2013

To uninstall an update, go to the Control Panel and select Programs.  Then, under Programs and Features, select View installed updates.  Select the updates listed above and click Uninstall.  If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2.     Install the updates listed below.  When you run Windows Update, the updates will now automatically be installed in the proper order.  You must restart the computer after you apply each update.

·        Install KB 2883200

·        Install KB 2887595 and KB 2903939.

Great. this is a much better workaround because it does not require us to do anything special when we shutdown. a great catch.

We are not the only people with this "limited" wifi problem. The forums are full of people reporting this issue with other manufacturers laptops and tablets since the original Windows 8. I'll test this on some of my laptops to see if it helps there too.

    good job!

    tmIP

It's probably the reason I lose my WIFI if I leave my Dell in standby mode too long and I have to do a reset when it comes out of it to regain WIFI.

So many different problems with the WIFI on this tablet, but I do like it. I will give your idea a try.

    Thanks

A GREAT WORKAROUND - Sorry if I'm a bit excited, but after spending about 20 total hours on this problem, and sending my venue 8 pro back to dell service (to no avail), I think I've figured out a great workaround.  My DV8P problem is that I lose internet connectivity after a full "shut down".  One way to bypass this problem is, as proposed by Meryl Arbing, to shut down using the windows icon instead.  HOWEVER, I think I've found an even better solution - just disable (uncheck) the "Turn on fast startup" button within the power options/system settings window.  Voila, my internet connects up immediately upon startup.  Hopefully this won't peter out after a few days...

Well, for me, this is a viable workaround so I just put it out there in case it might be helpful to somebody else. Thanks for replying.

    Merly Arbing -

You and I must have the identical problem.  Your workaround is the only thing that works for me.  Do you know if theres a way to put the "shut down" from the windows logo onto my start screen, so I don't have to click so many steps to get there?  Thanks very much.
