Dell Venue 8 Pro - black screen after powering on or getting it out of sleep

I have purchased several Dell Venue 8 tablets over the last few months of 2014 for customers using my meter reading entry app. At least half of them have failed to power up at least several times, and two have never powered up again. The one that I most recently had in my possession was finally thrown into the trash can. I have customers in 39 states using my utility billing software. I have tried a Dell laptop with Windows 8.1 which would not recognize a second monitor, nor would its WIFI system work, and, as I just mentioned, several of the Venue 8 Pro tablets. I will not purchase or recommend Dell products again.

I also purchased a Microsoft Surface 3 after all of this trouble with Dell, and within 24 hours of that purchase, it failed to power up as well. I took it back to Best Buy and they could not get it to power up either.

Finally, I believe that I have found a tablet that will faithfully power up. It is the HP Stream 7 with Windows 8.1. So far, it has never failed to power up, and believe me, I put it through some serious testing before sending it to a customer.

Did you try holding the power button down for 12 seconds to shut them off before powering them back on? My experience with this bug on the Dell Venue 8 Pro is that the tablet has to be shut down forcefully before it will power on again. If I can't get the screen to come on, I do this, and it has worked every time.

I have worked with computers since 1970, when the main output device was a huge printer and programming was submitted to the computer on punch cards. I am not bragging, just indicating that I should know how to turn a tablet on.

The Dell Venue 8 Pro with Windows 8.1 was a total and complete failure multiple times for me. I have one customer that purchased three of them, and has yet to use any of them. I personally purchased several within a short period of time, and have had all of them to fail to power up multiple times. As I mentioned in my previous post, I have not been able to get two of them to do anything. I tried holding down the power button for intervals of 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds, 20 seconds, etc. to no avail. I tried holding down every possible combination of buttons, again with no success. In all cases, they worked fairly reliably for several days, then somewhat reliably for a month or two, before completely failing to power up again.

Some might think that I must be too old to be trying to work with new technology. But, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how to hold a power button down on a tablet that has been charging for 12 to 24 hours. Again, I was programming on punch cards in 1970, and I became a certified computer technician in 1979. Not bragging, just setting the parameters for the level of reliability for the aforementioned devices.

My Venue 8 Pro has the same issue after Windows Update.  One way to bring the screen back is to press and hold the power button for a few second so that it will force shut down.  The press the power button again to restart the screen.  Bases on what I know and troubleshot so far, it seems to be related to Intel Graphic driver update with my last Windows Update. As soon as I rolled back the Intel Graphic Driver update, my Venue 8 Pro came back alive from sleep.  However, once I updated to Windows 10, the Intel HD Graphic component cannot be removed so I am back to the black screen problem.  One workaround for me (at least) is to change my Power Management option in the "Power and Button" option from "sleep" to "Shut Down".  Basically what this does is when I am not using the tablet and uses the power button, it will just shut the tablet down instead of putting it to sleep.  Not a permanent solution but a workaround.

" P E R F E C T ", this has been driving me nuts for weeks now and your solution of rolling the  Intel Graphic Driver update back worked perfectly, my tablet is now useable again...

* I rolled my  Intel Graphic Driver all the way back to the one dated 11/02/13
