Dell Venue 8 Pro - black screen after powering on or getting it out of sleep

I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet. The screen of the 8 pro often doesnt turn on after pressing the power button (to get it out of sleep) or after pressing the windows button. Only the backlight turns on.

Sometimes, after pressing the power button numerous times the screen turns on. (numerous = >50times)

Doenst matter if the battery is 100% or 10%.

The screen also doesnt turn on booting it up (after powering down).

Also when i press the power button + volume down immediately after (to enter the bios), it shows a black screen with backlight on.

I have installed teamviewer on the 8 pro and i have logged on with my laptop 3 times while having a black screen on the 8 pro.

The strange thing is, when viewing the 8 pro's screen with teamviewer, i can see the touch screen of the 8 pro is still functioning. See this video i made:

Each time i watched the system event log, and saw warnings like:

'a pointer device did not report a valid unit of angular measurement'

'a pointer device reported a bad angular physical range'

'a pointer device reported a bad angular logical range'

I have installed all the laters Dell drivers and flashed the Bios (also from Dell). Also i installed the latest windows 8.1 updates.

I have rolled back the installed Intel graphic drivers to standard microsoft drivers, but also with the standard drivers the screen occasionally wont turn on.

This device is rather new. What can i do to fix this?

Throw it away and buy something that will actually work. I have gone through three of them, selling them to customers, and have had to just write them off as bad purchases. I actually did throw them all in the trash where they belong.

Same problem here;

The screen backlight turns on.

VNC works. I can use the tablet remotely.

In VNC I can see that touchscreen still works.

Disabling monitor or graphicsadapter and enableling does not fix it.

Windows 10 Clean install. 32-bit.

Updated BIOS to newest version.

Disabled TMP.

Updated Intel graphics drivers.

Disabled ask for password when coming out of stand-by.

Tried disabling lockscreen.

disabled c-states

disabled camera, blueyooth wwan wlan cardreader.

disabled sleep mode

all to no avail. when i turn of the screen with the power button and try to turn it om after 10 minutes, it does not display anymore

Rebooting does not fix the problem, even after turning it off with holding the power button for 10 seconds. When i turn it on, it does not display the Dell logo or anything else, but it does boot on the background. Because moments later I can access it through VNC.

Workaround:

Log in remotely with VNC. Move the mouse around a bit. use physical power button to turn screen off and on again.

That seems to be the only fix for now. Will keep you posted.

I think when Windows turns the screen off, it sets a firmware switch. That is why even rebooting into BIOS does not display anything.

I had a similar issue where any time I put the computer into standby, I couldn't turn it back on - the backlight would come on, but the screen would be black.

However, in my case, it would reboot back to working condition if I held down the power key and forced it off then back on.

I was able to fix this by going into Device Manager, selecting my Display Adapter, going to Properties -> Driver -> Roll Back Driver, and rolling back to the previous version.

Seems to be working great now.
