how to reset phone if i forgot my lockscreen password

i forgot my phone's lock screen pin and unable to unlock it

after reading a lot of questions regarding it i found that we should reset the phone and there is no other option than that .

so how to do it, mine is lumia 520

Log into windowsphone.com and use the Find My Phone feature to set a new lock code

  1. Go to http://www.windowsphone.com and sign to the Microsoft account associated with your phone.
  2. Select "Find My Phone" from  the drop down menu that appears when you click on your name.  Or just go to https://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/my/find
  3. Click the "Lock" link
  4. Enter a new 4 digit PIN code and press the Lock button.

    Hi candelariaray,

    Nokia has posted the following instructions for doing a factory reset at boot time,  It should work for HTC and Samsung Windows Phone 8 devices in addition to Nokia Lumia devices.

    Warning: This erases all personal content on your phone and restores the factory settings.

    1. Make sure the charger is disconnected, and switch the phone off.
    2. Press and hold the volume down key, and connect the charger. The screen shows an exclamation mark (!).

    3. Press the keys in the following order: volume up, volume down, power, and volume down. Your phone resets, and boots up. This may take several minutes.

    For step #2, you can substitute plugging the charger, by pressing the power button for a few seconds, while pressing the volume downkey. You want to keep the volume down pressed until the exclamation mark comes up on the screen.

    Chris, right now I have a Lumia 520, and I am at your "Find my phone" link. But Im having trouble finding the "Lock" Link. I might have seen it already, by seeing the Lock Screen link, but when I click on that one, I dont see an option to changing to passcode to phone. So I NEED a reply please, and thank you. If you could give specifics on where I can find the "Lock" link please and from there on.

    so i put a password on my windows 8 phone, and i cant remember it, and i locked myself out. i want to know if i can reset my password from my microsoft account, and if i could have a link to it. or if that is not possible then to know how i can reset my phone without using my microsoft CCOUNT(LIKE JUST BUTTONS ON MY PHONE). THANKS, AND PLEASE REPLY SOONNNNN
