KB2952664 was published on April 22, 2014 and appears in my Windows Update List (I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit).
The description of this update is vague: "This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."
Anyone have more information on what this update actually does? If its sole purpose is to ease the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (or 8.1 or 8.1 update), then I'll just permanently hide KB2952664 (I have no desire or intention to "upgrade" my Windows 7 system to any flavor of Windows 8).
If its purpose is to ease what would be a true Windows 7 upgrade to a yet-to-be-announced Windows 7 SP2, then I'll keep it (but still would like to have more information about what KB2952664 actually does before installing).

It's back!!! Just re-appeared when I did a Windows Update. When I last installed Feb 08, it required a reboot. I have no idea if this installation will require a reboot. This is #33 by my count; #1 was 04/28/2014. I do not know if the KB article has been updated to inform us as to the changes in this updated patch,
As a reply to Vladimir, there are ways to disable CompatTelRunner.exe .One way would be via an alternate boot, if one's machine is dual-boot.
Thanks for your quick response. Everything you said is a foreign to me. I am a novice at this computer stuff. I'll search online or YouTube for some more clues. I'm afraid to do any updates in fear they mess up my computer. Thanks again!
I don't know what happened after trying to run that troubleshooter and having it fail but for some reason I plugged both mouses wireless and wired in and now they are working after 3 weeks of headache. Thanks! I pray they keep working. I'm a happy camper right about now.
I have Removed or hidden this update 5 or 6 times, and it keeps coming back.
It is a sick way to advertise products users does not want.
Disegard of the customers wishes and overwrting their personal settings.
This is a PC = PERSONAL COMPUTER.

There is only one way to stop Microsoft's invasion of your computer. Set the WU setting to NEVER..... Then you take the responsibility of updating, when, what and whether you decide.
That works to a limited degree for Windows 7, and simply is not available for Windows 10. Starting in October 2016 Microsoft's WU policy changed to one they called "quality roll-up". That actually means that all updates are enclosed in ONE update that includes not only the Quality ones insinuated in the name, but all the non-quality ones it decides to include. Leaving you much less control.
I can tell you this. My 150 client Windows 7 computers have not included a Microsoft Update since May 2017. They run dramatically more reliably and stable by far. Not a single instance of a problem. My phone rings less than half as often now. Who cares about January 2020???
