What exactly does KB2952664 do?

KB2952664 was published on April 22, 2014 and appears in my Windows Update List (I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit).

The description of this update is vague:  "This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."

Anyone have more information on what this update actually does? If its sole purpose is to ease the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (or 8.1 or 8.1 update), then I'll just permanently hide KB2952664 (I have no desire or intention to "upgrade" my Windows 7 system to any flavor of Windows 8).

If its purpose is to ease what would be a true Windows 7 upgrade to a yet-to-be-announced Windows 7 SP2, then I'll keep it (but still would like to have more information about what KB2952664 actually does before installing).

    I would appreciate your insights on a couple of questions.

    I do the IT support for a small medical clinic. The Electronic Medical Record system utilizes an intranet website that uses Internet Explorer 10. IE 11 will not be supported until 2017, but I don't see us getting that upgrade of the software as soon as it's released. Which means that we should not upgrade to IE 11 until late 2017 at the earliest. (And yes, we use IE 10 internally only, and other browsers externally only.)

    Does anyone know if these rollups will force IE 11?

    And second: the whole thing about Telemetry Scans is more than a bit scary from the standpoint of the HIPAA security requirements.

    I do not know for certain that IE11 would be forced on you.  You may be able to get some good answers at the www.askwoody.com forum.  My best guess is that it would be done.

    From at least the perspective of confidentiality, I would think you would have to consider very carefully whether you want to allow further Windows Updates.

    Guess what?   KB2952664 re-appeared in my Windows 7 Update this morning   I installed it for the 27th time.  I have not looked at the KB article online to see if it has been updated to tell us what was updated.  As far as I can tell, this patch has not caused me problems.  Does this patch remove more of the Get Windows 10 malware?

    I think this "update" (KB2952664) enables more snooping (collection of data from out computers) by Microsoft.

    I have always hidden it (each time it has been re-released) and will continue to hide it.
