What exactly does KB2952664 do?

KB2952664 was published on April 22, 2014 and appears in my Windows Update List (I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit).

The description of this update is vague:  "This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."

Anyone have more information on what this update actually does? If its sole purpose is to ease the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (or 8.1 or 8.1 update), then I'll just permanently hide KB2952664 (I have no desire or intention to "upgrade" my Windows 7 system to any flavor of Windows 8).

If its purpose is to ease what would be a true Windows 7 upgrade to a yet-to-be-announced Windows 7 SP2, then I'll keep it (but still would like to have more information about what KB2952664 actually does before installing).

    Yes, they suddenly (after that lawsuit, I guess), discovered that some users actually don't want to upgrade.

    Um, the fact that this forum exists, that programs exist to help people avoid the hijack (I have GWX Control Panel and there's another.

    Also the fact that after all this time there are still a load of people who haven't updated, not a clue.  They have been doing everything to trick people into the upgrade (unhiding updates because something you chose not to install changed, changing things to recommended to get them installed, making you click on the "X" to not install... then subtly changing that X to mean "install now", now they just realized that maybe we really don't want it.

    OR, they realized that if they lost the $10K suit before all the trickery, they'd be much more liable with all the trickery.

    KB2852664 re-appeared today in Windows Update - 26th time.  Is this the version that reverts the upper-right "X" to its normal meeting?    Also KB3170735 appeared, but I could not find anything online (except for one blog site in German), so I did not install it.  Is it too much trouble for Microsoft to release a KB article/documentation BEFORE the patch is released?

    It is intentional!  Microsoft sees itself as providing Windows as a service, not as updates to products.  Windows 10 does not have a user process for updating.  It all takes place under the covers and without any control on your part.  Microsoft sees Windows as a continuously changing platform that it can and will change and configure to its best interests (read profit).
